“Huzzah!” he wrote. “We’re very excited.”

The sequel was mainly made possible by fans, who crowdsourced $4.4 million for the flick, the New York Daily News reports. The original Super Troopers premiered in 2001 and has since become a cult classic.

Heffernan gave fans extensive insight into the film’s post production process, explaining that they have been doing test screenings and putting the finishing touches on the sequel.

One of those touches includes the film’s score, which Jay Chandrasekhar, who directed the original film, gave fans a peek at on Instagram back in June.

“In studio recording score for Super Troopers 2 with The Eagles of Death Metal,” he wrote next to a snap of himself with the group.

“We’ve been in post for the last 8 months, always looking at an unfinished product,” Heffernan wrote. “Now we get to watch the film in all its glory…. and that is an amazing feeling.”

He added that Fox Searchlight has received the finished product, and will share the plan for the film, noting that fans will be the first to find out the film’s release date.

“It’s painful to wait for this process because we’re dying to share this film with you, but each step takes us closer,” he concluded. “Again, we could not have done this without you and we thank you for all of your help.”
