Could Jon Jones Be Coming to WWE?

For the past week, the wrestling world has been abuzz with the potential departure of Brock Lesnar from WWE. His potential UFC bout with Jon Jones graduated from being a playful teaser to becoming a foregone conclusion.

However, according to Jim Ross, it may be Jones who is seeking to come to WWE.

In a recent blog post, good ol' JR hinted that the UFC Light Heavyweight Champion may be looking to join WWE in one way or another.

"Ironically, word on the street is that Jones is also interested in a WWE payday some day in the future which adds some irony to the Bones-Brock UFC scenario," Ross said.

"Athletes are arguably smarter today than ever before and they realize that these massive paydays are not going to last forever plus the fact that no one ever has 'enough money' contrary to public sentiment from those who actually don't have enough money," Ross added.

Could WWE and UFC each have their own big money match featuring Jones and Lesnar? As this story develops, it loses more precedent. Just through a couple of combative quotes, Jones and Lesnar have their respective worlds reeling on what might happen.

Following his third-round KO win against Daniel Cormier at UFC 214 over the weekend, Light Heavyweight Jon Jones called out WWE Universal Champion Brock Lesnar.

Jones didn't mince words in his message to The Beast, saying, "If you want to know what it feels like to get your ass kicked by someone who weighs 40 pounds less than you, meet me in the Octagon."

Lesnar immediately issued his own response to Jones' challenge last night via The Associated Press, warning the UFC champ to "Be careful what you wish for, young man."

When AP previously contacted Lesnar regarding the prospect, he had replied in a similarly direct manner.

"Would I fight Jon Jones? Anytime, anywhere. Right now he should be worried about D.C. on Saturday night," Lesnar said.

A UFC super-fight pitting Jones against Lesnar may be likely to go down in the near future. Both fighters have fueled recent rumors, but several obstacles remain.

Lesnar has to finish out serving a one-year suspension after failing two drug tests in connection with his fight against Mark Hunt at UFC 200 last year. When Lesnar retired from MMA, his suspension was frozen. He must be back in the testing pool for a full four months before he's able to fight.

Last time he fought he was granted a testing exemption, but this resulted in his suspension and a civil lawsuit filed by his opponent. He's also currently under contract with the WWE until next year's WrestleMania 34.
