‘The Good Fight’ Renewed for Season 5 at CBS All Access

CBS All Access has renewed The Good Fight for Season 5, ahead of the shows Season 4 finale. According to TV Line, the current season of the hit legal drama will be shortened, due to the coronavirus pandemic. However, fans can rest assured that Season 5 is on the way.

In a statement, series creators Robert and Michelle King addressed the shortened fourth season, saying, “It’s been weird to not be able to finish the fourth season. It left the story in even more absurd a place than usual. So we’re thrilled that CBS All Access wants to bring The Good Fight back for an additional season, and we know what story we’re planning to tell. It’s like getting the answers to the SAT ahead of time.”

In a recent interview, series star Christine Baranski spoke candidly about Season 4 of The Good Fight, telling IndieWire, “I think it’s a chilling season that really calls into question, why historically, men have gotten powerful, and because of that power, are able to get away with operating above the law, as much as they have. And it’s more than just Donald Trump. It’s looking at an entire system, starting with that first episode where it zeroes in on the Me Too movement, and Harvey Weinstein, Charlie Rose and Matt Lauer and asks, who’s been protecting these men and why? And these corporate CEOs, who often aren’t held accountable, which is where ‘Memo 618’ comes in. With income and power inequality in this country, it will be a very interesting season for people to watch. Definitely.”

CBS All Access is set to go under an expansion thanks to the merger between Viacom and CBS. It was more of a reunion for the two companies and a happy one judging from the lineup of content and films on the services. According a statement earlier in the week, the decision just makes sense.

“Expanding CBS All Access’ library of films with these iconic titles from Paramount Pictures is just one of the many ways we’re integrating the phenomenal catalog of IP available to us within the ViacomCBS family,” All Access programming chief Julie McNamara wrote. “The service is on a growth trajectory with two record-breaking months in March and April, and we look forward to bringing even more premium content and value to our subscribers in the coming months.”

The Good Fight is the original streaming spin-off to The Good Wife, focusing on the supporting parts of that universe and creating some quality work along the way. The series was the first original to launch on the CBS streaming platform, earning high critical marks and viewers along the way. It has also left fans wondering why the series didn’t make the jump to network television, something that CBS has teased by showing season 1 of the series during the summer ahead of the season 4 premiere.
