After seven years of marriage, the HGTV couple decided to divorce and quietly split in May 2016. Both Tarek and Christina have opened up about their post-marriage life and how they are dealing with co-parenting their two children.

During Tarek El Moussa’s appearance on The Doctors, he blamed the couple‘s split on lack of communication, cancer and fame.
“I feel like if we had better communication, we would have had a better relationship,” the 35-year-old reality star said during the episode set to air on Monday, March 6. “I think as time went on, you get busier and busier — and, you know, it was overnight. Businesses, TV, all these things happened at once, and then the cancer, then the cancer, then the back surgery. It just kind of started pushing us apart from each other.”

Tarek battled thyroid cancer in 2013 after a Flip or Flop viewer and registered nurse noticed a lump in the star’s throat and emailed producers to encourage him to have a biopsy.
In addition to thyroid cancer, he recently revealed that he was diagnosed with testicular cancer one month later.

The couple is back to working on the set of their final season of their HGTV hit show.
Last week, Christina appeared on Good Morning America and spoke out about her split for the first time. She opened up about her relationship with her estranged husband and how they couple manages to co-parent their children, 6-year-old daughter Taylor and 1-year-old son Brayden.
“Tarek and I met ten years ago at work and we went through a market crash, cancer, infertility, now we’re going through a very public divorce,” she said. “There’s a lot of false stories and a lot of hype, but in the end, we’re just normal nice people who want to be the best parents and co-workers we can be.”
As for how they manage co-parenting, Christina says, “It’s honestly going really good.”
