Arguably the busiest man in Hollywood, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson is set to develop a scripted drama series titled Muscle Beach, which has already been acquired by USA Network. The project, from Johnson and Dany Garcia's Seven Bucks Productions and Flynn Picture Co., will be set in a legendary bodybuilding gym in 1980's Venice Beach.

According to Variety, the premise of the show is: "A colorful tribe of lost souls struggles to reinvent themselves by bench-pressing their way to a bigger, better American dream, no matter what the cost. As the series explores the body-obsessed fitness movement that took the nation by storm during the supersized Reagan '80s, the excess of the era and the many temptations of Los Angeles will expose the dark side of chasing dreams."

As the series explores the body obsessed fitness movement that took the nation by storm during the supersized Reagan 80's, the excess of the era and the many temptations of Los Angeles will expose the dark side of chasing dreams. As a kid growing up in the 80's it's exciting to produce a series that stays true to our brand and dig deep into an iconic time in bodybuilding and unique Venice Beach culture - the 80's. Jeremiah Friedman and Nick Palmer of Flynn Picture Co. will be re-teaming with Seven Bucks to executive produce alongside Beau Flynn, Dwayne Johnson, Dany Garcia. Friedman and Palmer will also be penning the script for the upcoming show.

Flynn mentioned in a statement, "Dwayne Johnson, Dany Garcia and Seven Bucks Productions are the only people on the planet to collaborate with on this groundbreaking and never-before-seen show." He continued saying, "Venice Beach in the 80s is iconic and like no era or place that existed before or after."

The writers and producers are the same team that delivered the sci-fi action comedy "Alpha Squad 7," starring Johnson, to DreamWorks this year.

Muscle Beach is reported to be different from Arnold Schwarzenegger's show Pump, which was announced Monday about Schwarzenegger's formative years at a Venice Beach gym in the 1970's. Schwarzenegger's show is set to be an eight-episode drama from Emmet/Furla/Oasis and is associated with CBS Television Studios.
