ABC Actress Signs New Contract Amidst Worries She Was Leaving the Show

Actress Laura Wright is continuing her more than two-decades run as “Carly Corinthos” on the popular ABC daytime soap General Hospital.

Wright, who’s been in the role since 2005, confirmed her return to the show for the upcoming season via a reply to a fan’s post on social media. When an X user posted that they’d stop watching General Hospital if Wright exited the show, the actress responded, “I’m not going anywhere (I) just signed a new contract!!!”

Having Wright reprise her role is no doubt good news for both the X user who was contemplating not watching General Hospital without Wright, and all fans of the soap, which has been airing new episodes since 1963. In her role as Carly, Wright’s earned eight Daytime Emmy Award nominations and won one such award. In 2011 she took the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series.

ABC, which airs new episodes of GH, has not publicly commented on Wright’s new contract, nor did the actress state the length of her new contract. Wright’s status on the show had been speculated about over the last several months following the exits of other regular cast members.

Wright, 55, is a veteran of the soap opera genre thanks to more than just her tenure on GH, which began in 2005. Prior to her role in General Hospital, Wright was cast in Loving, All My Children, The City, and Guiding Light. The last of which was an eight-season run. She’s also been cast on the big screen, alongside Jennifer Lawrence in the 2015 drama Joy. Other acting credits include one episode of VH1’s Hit the Floor and Deadly Patient, a Lifetime movie.

General Hospital is currently in its 63^rd season. Yes, you read that correctly. The soap airs Monday through Friday on ABC and also streams on Hulu.
