Last night’s match between Bayley and Nia Jax worked at an excruciatingly slow pace. Watching their contest felt awkward and now we may know why.
Bayley could be injured.

On the recap episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, Bryan Alvarez noticed the odd quirks of the match too and he thinks it could spell trouble for Bayley’s health:
Up Next: It’s Time for Bayley to Go Back to NXT
“Well, I gotta talk about this [Bayley vs. Nia Jax] match real quick. Maybe Bayley is just like a tremendous worker, and she does a great job selling, but I think she separated her shoulder in this match. There was a spot where Bayley got thrown to the mat, I mean, Nia was just throwing her outside, and Bayley landed right on her shoulder, and went outside and started selling it, or was really hurt.”
It’s hard to tell if Bayley is just really good at her profession or she was legitimately injured:
“And then later, Nia gets her up in a double chicken wing, and just drops her right on her shoulder, and at that point, in a match that already had no heat, that already nobody cared about, Bayley rolled outside and just sat there for like 30, 45 seconds. And the referee is talking to her, he’s fiddling with the gimmick on his belt where he sends word to the back. Maybe she’s just really great and this is a storyline, but I’ve separated my shoulder, and I bought this, I’ll just say that.”

Typically any match with Nia Jax is going to be punishing for any wrestler. The basic psychology of working with Jax relies on her imposing herself on her much smaller opponents. So for anyone that steps in the ring with her, they are going to get “hurt” more than they typically would.
Another thing to consider is WWE writing Bayley off of TV. Despite winning her number one contendership last week, she has never been this irrelevant with the fan base. Each week the crowd reacts less and less. WWE has to have noticed this and maybe they have decided to put her on the shelf for a rehabilitation period.
If this is the case, then Sasha Bank would certainly step into Bayley’s spot and give us the SummerSlam match we really wanted all along. It’s been well documented that Sasha and Alexa Bliss do not like each other on a personal level. WWE has long exploited such relationships and we should expect nothing less is this situation.
