With just 12 days until SummerSlam, WWE set out on Tuesday night to try to lock-in all of their storylines for the second biggest show of the year.
It was another good edition of SmackDown, though not as good as last week’s show that was headlined by a dream match and featured two great under card bouts. That one was always going to be hard to top.

We covered some of the biggest parts of SmackDown live here on Pop Culture last night as it happened. We got John Cena opening the show (with Daniel Bryan revealing his SummerSlam opponent), Kevin Owens trolling the Canadian crowd in a segment with Shane McMahon and AJ Styles, and Randy Orton surprising everyone by defeating WWE Champion Jinder Mahal clean.
So what else worth mentioning happened on SmackDown? A lot, actually. Here’s what you missed from last night’s SmackDown Live.
The Usos Destroyed The Canadian Boys

Canada’s own Tye Dillingerย (from just outside Toronto) and Samiย Zaynย (Montreal area) were paired up to face the Usos. The Toronto crowd, unsurprisingly, saw them lose very quickly to the Usos.ย
The bout was of course done to continue to build up the Usosย for their tag team title match at SummerSlam. It was effective in getting them a solid victory over a mid card team. After the bout, they called out the New Day, who have been absent since two weeks ago.

Ask and you shall receive. Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston jumped the Usosย from behind, Usosย style. Jey and Jimmy had been looking toward the entrance way after Big E came on over the PA system and walked to the ramp, but Xavier and Kofiย ran up out of the crowd,ย Uso style.ย
Fashion Peaks: Fandango Returns

This week’s Fashion Files segment, or should I say Fashion Peaks, was not as good as last week’s, but it did feature the return of Fandango from his estrangement.ย
Breeze opened the segment talking about how last week’s visions were a code that he was trying to crack. He wondered where Fandango is, and just like that, Fandango walked in looking to be a haze. He drank some coffee at Breeze’s suggestion and snapped out of it. “Damn good cup of coffee.”
Breeze asked him where he had been and Fandango said he was abducted by aliens. This lead to an anal probe joke. He said he could have left anytime but he enjoyed the wardrobe. Wardrobe. Anal probe. See how he got them mixed up? Moving on.ย

Fandango said that his trip with the aliens gave him the ability to see into the future. He said the next person that walks through the door is the person who destroyed their (toy) horse Tully. In walked Arnย Anderson, which lead to some “Tully” jokes, obviously invoking Tully Anderson from the Four Horsemen. Arnย admitted to destroying the horse, saying they should have named it Arn because he was the real enforcer of that group.
Charlotte Toyed Around With Lana

Lana tried to improve but just ended up getting embarrassed.ย That was the story here.ย
The match itself was very brief, with the most notable moment being when Lana went for a sunset flip and pulled down Charlotte’s shorts. This caused the crowd to chant “Thank you, Lana!” In the end, Charlotte got the win with the Figure Four into the Figure Eight.

Prior to the match, Lana was shown talking to Tamina backstage. She said that she was her inspiration, except that she would be a more ravishing version. Later in the show, Taminaย approached Lana and asked her how her match went. Lana thought she was just trying to rub it in and wanted her to leave. Eventually, Taminaย said what got her to where she is (where is she?) is ambition. She told Lana she would help her find hers.ย
The Return of James Ellsworth

The second women’s match of the evening featured SmackDown Women’s Champion Naomi wrestling Ms. Money In The Bank Carmella. The bout itself was kind of sloppy (and brief). Natalya was shown backstage watching throughout.
The finish of the match featured the return of James Ellsworth. As Naomi was on the top rope, she got into a shoving match with Carmella. Carmella pulled at her hair, causing the referee to step in between. At that point, Ellsworth ran through the crowd and shoved Naomi off the top rope. She got up and was promptly superkicked by Carmella and pinned.

There was an interaction afterward backstage. Carmella and Ellsworth continued to tease that they will cash in the briefcase at SummerSlam. Naomi said if either get involved in their match, she’ll give Carmella a chin like Ellsworth’s. The duo exclaimed that they hope Naomi beats Carmella so that she is the one they can cash-in on and defeat at SummerSlam.ย
After Naomi left, Natalyaย came in and said she doesn’t want either of them near her match at SummerSlam.ย
Carmella cashing in at SummerSlamย continues to be a pretty good bet.ย
