Kurt Angle recently spoke with Planeta Wrestling in order to promote WWE 2k18. The WWE Hall of Famer covered what his motivations were for returning to WWE as well as which characters he'd most like to be in the company's new game.
When the conversation turned to which NXT wrestler he'd like to snag for his RAW brand, Angle had a decisive answer.
"Oh gosh, I really like that Asuka girl. I'm telling you, the girls have really come on strong. Watching her, I know she's gonna make a huge impact when she comes up, and I really hope we get her on RAW. I really enjoy watching the females become a big part of the WWE. Not just an addition but a big staple. They're just as highly demanded as the guys now, I think Triple H and the WWE have done an incredible job with NXT."
For those that don't know Asuka has enjoyed not only one of the most dominant runs NXT has ever seen, but wrestling as well. In May Asuka surpassed Bill Goldberg's legendary undefeated streak (173-0). She also shattered another prestigious record when she eclipsed CM Punk's 434-day reign as champion.
Asuka learned the craft of professional wrestling in Japan and would venture to the US in 2011. In August of 2015, Asuka was shown in the audience of an NXT event and speculation immediately began that she had signed with WWE's developmental brand. Since officially joining WWE, The 35-year-old has been on top of NXT. By now, her arrival on the main roster is nothing less than imminent.
By Angle singling her out, we can assume that he's not the only one in WWE who owns a glowing opinion about the NXT Champion. It's hard to forecast how and when WWE will pull the Asuka trigger. One thing that is certain, though, is that women's wrestling is hotter than ever.0comments
WWE may choose to send her to SmackDown, first. The Blue Brand serves as a nice proving ground for stars that are new to WWE. With fewer people watching, WWE may feel like that the margin for error is more forgiving that what RAW allows.
Like anything else with WWE, we'll just have to wait and see. Wherever Asuka goes, it should be fun.
