Does Roman Reigns Have the 'It' Factor?

08/31/2017 04:15 pm EDT

Few can spark a heated conversation about WWE like Roman Reigns. Some fans feel he's undeserving of his top status, others think he can't be champion again soon enough. Perhaps only John Cena gets a bigger reaction from WWE live audiences than The Big Dog. That said, does Roman Reins have the proverbial "it" factor?

In an interview with DC101, Intercontinental Champion, The Miz answered that very question:

Up Next: Did Roman Reigns Actually Turn Heel At Great Balls Of Fire?

"Right now, he's a really big good guy or a really big bad guy, it all depends on the way you look at it. He'll walk out and get booed out of the building or he'll walk out and get cheered out of the building. But the one thing that Roman Reigns has is the "it factor" and he's a bonafide star who can go in a WWE ring."

Few would know what a star looks like better than The Miz, right? The Miz's assertion about Reigns is not only correct but impervious to argument.

At this point in 2017, there really isn't much use in asking this question. Roman Reigns unequivocally has those highly coveted "It Factor." It may have taken a year or so, but Reigns has flourished at the top of WWE. To find his last poor performance, you'd have to go back to the 2015 Royal Rumble. Even then, he was likely fine in the ring, but it was clear the sheer and vitriolic rejection of the Philadelphia crowd shook him (and The Rock).

Love him or hate him, Roman Reigns is here to stay. The main reason fans don't link him is because they are afraid that he will be the second coming John Cena (who was the second coming of Hulk Hogan). For many fans, Cena's dominance took the fun away from watching WWE as he served as WWE's invincible hero. But Roman Reigns is not John Cena. In fact, they are vastly different.

Could you imagine John Cena stuffing Braun Strowman into an ambulance and sending it crashing? Or gloating about ending the Undertaker's career? While they both get huge cheers and massive boos, Reigns is far more the split personality than Cena ever was. Look no further than last week's episode of Smackdown where Cena cut a patriotic promo and waved the US flag with plenty of enthusiasm. Now picture Roman Reigns doing that. It's hard to do.

So there's no need to fear, fans. Roman Reigns may not be John Cena, but that doesn't mean he won't be just as successful.
