The Iron Man Match between the Hardys and Cesaro and Sheamus nearly stole the show at Great Balls of Fire last night. The great performance came with a price, though.

As Matt and Jeff Hardy feverishly fought back to even the score, a tandem aerial assault cost Matt some blood. It's hard to say what specifically caused Hardy's face to bust open, but when he and Jeff hit a simultaneous elbow drop and splash on Sheamus, someone's elbow must have caught Matt on his eyebrow. Within seconds, his face was covered in blood.

Here's the video of Matt getting patched up by WWE's medical staff. It's not for the squeamish:

If that wasn't enough for you, here's a post from Matt Hardy's Twitter:

For those that think wrestling is fake, Hardy's picture and WWE's video sure look real. Unfortunately for Matt and his brother, their blood sacrifice did not work as they lost their Iron Man Match by the score of 4-3.

If you missed the match, it's worth going back and re-watching. It was four veterans of the wrestling business having a blast. The timing, technique, and drama were all executed perfectly as the match literally came down to the final seconds. It was one of the rare instances in WWE when everyone involved was elevated. Bravo, guys.

Cesaro and Sheamus were heavily favored to retain their titles tonight but working against WWE royalty like the Hardys is never a forgone conclusion. Adding to the speculation, Sheamus is due to take 6 weeks off in the coming month to film a movie, so WWE removing him off of the tag-team championship seemed logical. In the end, none of this scuttlebutt mattered as the European connection kept their titles.

The RAW Tag Team Champions appear to be having fun in the second halves of their careers and, as proven veterans, they deserve to have the titles as long as they like. Surveying the Raw Tag Team division won't take long - there are only 4 teams. It's possible they stick with the Hardy's for a few weeks before finding a new SummerSlam opponent.

A splitting of the Hardy Boyz has been alluded to and that may be in the works. Then again, Matt has been constant in his attempt to keep their "BROKEN" personas relevant by teasing their manifestation on Twitter on a near weekly basis. What's most evident is that WWE has plenty of options, and that will keep us glued to their programming.
