Global Force Wrestling (GFW) has stripped Alberto El Patron of the Unified World Championship.
When El Patron and his fiancée Paige were involved in a public incident at Orlando International Airport, GFW announced they would conduct their own internal investigation. GFW’s exploration paralleled that of the Orlando Police. Oddly, Orlando authorities did not find reason to charge El Patron, but apparently, GFW has.

“GFW has concluded its internal consideration of the events surrounding the suspension of Alberto El Patron. While it is apparent that initial reports unfairly characterized El Patron’s involvement in the incident in the Orlando airport, we are nonetheless disappointed with the manner in which he dealt with this situation; we expect more decorum from all on the GFW roster, especially the World Champion,” GFW said in a statement.
“We have communicated with El Patron our decision to strip him of his championship title. No decision has been taken as to the date on which he will be reinstated to the roster, the conditions of which are a private matter between the company and El Patron,” the statement continued.
The altercation that serves as the impetus for all of this has had multiple conflicting accounts of what actually did happen. Paige has contradicted her side of the story at least twice, while Orlando authorities have said that it was Paige who should be in investigated, not Del Rio.

To say the least, this entire situation is confusing. For GFW to essentially convict El Patron of something that police would not (or are at least unaware of) lets us know that there will be to come on the El Patron/Paige saga.
El Patron won the Unified Championship earlier this summer at GFW’s Slammiversary. It proved to be a culminating moment for the company as not only was the show well received but also it was a declaration of some much-needed cohesion. With Patron out, GFW returns to the parody that it is all too familiar with.
