Biggest Questions After 2 Episodes Of American Gods

It only took two episodes for American Gods to earn another season on Starz, as it only took two episodes to show fans that they were in for a one-of-a-kind viewing experience.

The new series has captured the attention of fans and critics alike, and is starting to become one of the more talked-about shows on social media. As you’d expect from a project that came from the unique mind of Neil Gaiman, much of the conversation revolves around the mystery of it all.

As exciting as the first two episodes of American Gods have been, they’ve left fans with many more questions than answers. Each moment provides another clue about the trajectory of the series, but also loads three more questions into the back of every mind.

This can be a bit frustrating, sure. But this style if narrative is also one of the most effective in television. All of the mystery is what makes people come back.

So, as we head into episode three of American Gods with a continuous scratching of the head, let’s look at some of the biggest questions in the back of every fan’s mind.

What Is The War About?

Obviously, the biggest question for every fan revolves around the plot itself. What is this war about?

Shadow Moon has found himself in the middle of an enormous war between the gods. The old gods like Mr. Wednesday, are fighting for survival against the wave of new gods, like Technology Boy. 

The entire series revolves around this supposed war, but there has been no solid indication regarding what it’s actually about.

Are the new gods trying to push out the old once and for all? Are the old gods just trying to bring their agendas back to the forefront?

We don’t yet know the exact cause of this battle, but we’re sure to find out before the first season wraps up.

Why Did Mr. Wednesday Choose Shadow?

Shadow is nothing more than a man, and he’s a skeptical man at that. So, why was he he one chosen to go to war with Mr.  Wednesday? Knowing the way of the old god, there’s no way it was random chance. There was some kind of plan in place that chose Shadow to embark on this journey.

He obviously wasn’t chosen for his faith, because he didn’t have much to start with. And it’s hard to say he was chosen for his skepticism, because there are millions of skeptics in the world. Could it have been a unique combination of those two factors?

Shadow’s loss of his wife was a likely factor. Losing everything, and being completely alone, put Shadow in the perfect position to help assist the old gods in this war. It almost makes you wonder if the death of Laura was even an accident at all.

Could divine intervention have played a part? This brings us to our next question

Is Laura Still Alive?

Laura Moon still has a lot of influence on her husband, even from the grave. He continues to see her in everyday life, no matter how hard he tries not to. Is there a chance she isn’t actually gone?

Yes, she had a funeral. And yes, she was buried six feet under the ground. However, in a show where a woman literally devours lovers between her legs, covering up a death hardly seems unreasonable.

Laura could have been taken by the olds gods, to try and force Shadow into thinking he’d lost everything, and convincing him to help them. Then again, she also could have been take by the new gods as a plot twist to be named later.

Is Shadow Moon Immortal?

Shadow survived being lynched, and he’s the only character who seems to find that odd. The audience however, knows that this is significant.

Fast forward to the end of episode two, Czernobog made a bet with Shadow. The latter lost, and his punishment is death. The Russian god will take Shadow outside, just like one of the cows. and his head will be crushed with a bleeding hammer.

Czernobog seems like a man of his word, so it’s safe to say he’s going to follow through with this. Shadow isn’t going to die, so there’s a good chance the man could already be immortal.
