There are some fashion items that just stick with you forever–that you can’t get out of your head, that you can’t mentally break up with. If you’re still lusting after an item from seasons past, whether it be something as popular as the Isabel Marant wedge sneaker that launched a thousand wedge sneakers or something as obscure as a turquoise quilted scuba Chanel bag circa Fall 2009 (not to get too specific or anything), there’s a new site that might have it.
Launched in 2009, Vestiaire Collective began with the aim of offering a community platform on which members are able to buy and sell, top of the range and pre-owned luxury clothes and accessories. According to the website, “Each week, more than 20,000 new items selected by a team of stylists are put on-line and add to strengthening a permanent catalogue of 400,000 products.” Their offices span fabulous fashion meccas including Paris, New York, London, Berlin and soon Milan and Madrid.

Recently, the Vestiaire Collective began “The One that Got Away,” where you can search for those hard-to-find pieces via a missed connection board. If you’re looking for that bubble gum pink Carven wool jacket that every street style on Earth was wearing a few seasons ago, you can post it to the board where Vestiaire’s 4 million strong community can see if they have a match for you in what they’re selling. Lanvin ribbon necklaces, Prada lucite and candy bracelets, plaid skirts from Dries Van Noten’s Spring/Summer 2013 collection — all those requests are out there, hoping to make someone’s fashion dreams come true.
If it’s a match, you can get notified via email or text that your beloved item is ready and waiting for you to purchase, usually at a discount since it is all resale product. But that doesn’t stop fashion veterans like stylist Kate Foley from looking for their should-have pieces (Miu Miu Spring/Summer 2011 metallic leather jacket, in case you were wondering). Get in front of the curve and go ahead and post for those Gucci fur-lined slip ons everyone is coveting — you might still want them next season!
