Los Angeles Chargers Philip Rivers is not humble when he's on the football field. If he makes a big play, he's going to celebrate and not feel bad about it. That was the case on Sunday when the Chargers took on the Jacksonville Jaguars and Rivers threw an 84-yard touchdown pass to Austin Ekeler. As Rivers threw the pass, he was knocked down by Jaguars defender Yannick Ngakoue who helped Rivers up.
Once Rivers was up, he yelled: "Ninety-yard touchdown! Ninety-yard touchdoooowwwwn!"
The referee then said, "Get the f— outta here," which led to Ngakoue telling the ref, "Hey, 17, you see how I ain't talking s— to him, right?"
Ngakoue then told Rivers to, "Stay humble, bro. Stay humble."
Rivers then said: "I'm just saying 90-yard — I can be excited."
The two continued to go back and forth and it led to Ngakoue saying: "Aye, one-seven. One-seven. I'll holla at you after the game."
It was one of the funniest mic'd up moments in recent memory and fans loved it. Here's a look at social media sounding off on Rivers trash-talking the Jaguars.
This is the greatest mic’d up moment in NFL history 😂 pic.twitter.com/yvPUYUVPOg— NFL Memes (@NFL_Memes) December 10, 2019
Here's a look at Rivers going at it. What makes it hilarious is when Rivers tells Ngakoue: "I WILL do it by your ear. That's what I do! That's what I do!"
It's clear Rivers doesn't care who he's talking to and he's been that way ever since he entered the league in 2004.
Rivers might be funniest trash talker ever. He don’t mean no harm lol https://t.co/i01sqBLnAg— Tyrann Mathieu (@Mathieu_Era) December 10, 2019
Tyrann Mathieu has played against Rivers over the years and he knows that his trash-talking is nothing serious. And he might be right because Rivers has always been passionate about the game and he shows it on the field. So Mathieu absolutely loved seeing the N.C. State alum in action.
I been trying to explain to y’all you dealing with a different cat. https://t.co/yOXWwOaJ6u— Shawne Merriman (@shawnemerriman) December 10, 2019
Shawne Merriman used to play alongside Rivers so he is not surprised by the video at all. Rivers plays the game a different way than most NFL quarterbacks, and it has worked for as he's considered the best QB right now that hasn't played in a Super Bowl.
Chargers are 5-8 bottom of a😌AFC West and Rivers is trying to flex over a TD 😂😂😂🤦♂️— WhatsHisFace (@MxKwik) December 10, 2019
This fan is laughing because the Chargers are 5-8 and Rivers is acting as the team has the No. 1 seed in the playoffs. Rivers doesn't care because he's all about what's going on right now. So if he threw an 84-yard touchdown pass, he's going to be excited about it because it's something that doesn't happen that often.
If rivers could play like his mouth runs he'd be a good quarterback— Patriotsfeeder (@patriotsfeeder) December 10, 2019
This fan believes if Rivers plays the way he talks, he would be a multiple Super Bowl winner. Rivers has put together a strong career, but he has yet to play for a Super Bowl. So the fan is right based on the way Rivers talks, but he doesn't have to apologize for his career either.
Rivers wonders why players and fans don't like him. Talking smack with all the ints he threw the past few games makes no since.— Brandon Vanhorn (@bigblue_13) December 10, 2019
This is the reason why fans don't Rivers according to the Twitter user. That might be true, but Rivers is about trying to win football games. Things have not gone his way this season, but teammates love playing for him and he's had his share of more good times than bad during his NFL career.
Need Philip Rivers mic’d up for every game 🤣 pic.twitter.com/FBy6MIS9xE— Athlete Swag (@AthleteSwag) December 10, 2019
This Twitter user wants Rivers "mic'd up" as much as possible. If Rivers is willing to do it, the NFL should have no problem with it since it would be good for ratings. However, Chargers fans may not like it if it becomes a distraction for some reason.
