War for the Planet of the Apes star Andy Serkis broke out his famous Lord of the Rings character for a presidential performance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert

Serkis was on the show to promote the latest film in the Planet of the Apes series but Colbert is a Lord of the Rings superfan and couldn’t resist getting Serkis to do a performance as Gollum and Smeagol. Colbert even provided Serkis with a script in the form of tweets by President Donald Trump. Watch it for yourself in the video above.

“The fake news media has never been so wrong…or so dirty” Serkis reads in his signature Gollum voice.

Serkis played the now iconic Gollum in the original The Lord of the Rings trilogy and reprised the role again for the “Riddles in the Dark” scene in Peter Jackson’s prequel The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.

In War for the Planet of the Apes, Caesar (Andy Serkis) and his apes are forced into a deadly conflict with an army of humans led by a ruthless colonel (Woody Harrelson). After the apes suffer unimaginable losses, Caesar wrestles with his darker instincts and begins his own mythic quest to avenge his kind. As the journey finally brings them face to face, Caesar and the colonel are pitted against each other in an epic battle that will determine the fate of both of their species and the future of the planet.

War for the Planet of the Apes is the third and final installment of the Planet of the Apes prequel trilogy, following Rise of the Planet of the Apes and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. This trilogy may be ending, but more Planet of the Apes films will follow.
