According to Variety, Walt Disney Studios has hired Tim Burton ("Batman Returns") to direct a live-action adaptation of their 1941 animated classic Dumbo.
Over the past several years, Disney has been adapting their classic animated films to live-action, like Maleficent, Cinderella and Alice in Wonderland. The latter was directed by Tim Burton and grossed over a billion dollars. Disney will see if lightning can strike twice with Dumbo.
The screenplay was written by Ehren Kruger, who has penned the last three Transformers films. According to Variety's sources, "Disney execs are very pleased with the script and wanted to quickly land an A-list director."
For those of you not familiar, Dumbo is about a cute, little elephant that is treated cruelly by others because he happens to have enormous ears. His only friend is a mouse named Timothy. Eventually, Dumbo learns to except his unusually large ears and even figures out that they allow him to fly!
