Director Andrés 'Andy' Muschietti may have just given audiences the first teaser look at the new Pennywise character from the upcoming 'IT' movie. Muschietti took to Instagram recently to post a picture from day one on the set of the horror film remake of Stephen King's 'It' as well as sharing a sketch of the terrifying clown character.

The sketch of Pennywise was drawn with black ink in the white space of the cover a composition book. The character is given longer hair that looks like flames sprouting from the clown's skull. Deep-set black eyes have been added, and the clown's mouth was sketched without a much different appearance than that of the original character.

'It' has become a priority release for New Line Cinema now under the direction of Andy Muschietti, who notably ventured into the horror genre with 2013 film 'Mama.' The upcoming 'It' film has been in development for a long time as it was first announced in March of 2009, and the studio confirmed that the upcoming film will likely be adapted into two parts. Director and producer Cary Fukunaga was originally attached to the project but then decided to opt out, and New Line Cineama quickly targeted Muschietti to replace him.

'It' was a novel originally penned by acclaimed author Stephen King. The miniseries is a supernatural horror story centered around a mysterious predator that was equipped with the terrifying ability of transforming into a person's worst nightmare. The creature most famously took on the visage of Pennywise, an evil clown that is still scaring audiences to this day.
