Maksim Chmerkovskiy and Peta Murgatroyd welcomed their first child together, son Shai, in early January, and the proud parents have shared their journey with fans every step of the way.

That doesn’t mean they haven’t taken time for themselves — the duo recently attended a fashion show on their date night, and Murgatroyd took a moment to share a gorgeous birthday post with Chmerkovskiy a few weeks ago. Since this is their first Valentine’s Day as parents, Chmerkovskiy made sure to include his newborn son in his Instagram post declaring his love for his fiancée. It’s been one week plus one day of my fatherhood and I’m the happiest person that’s ever lived. I’m also feeling very protective and now understand what every parent in history have been going through for as long as humans have been giving birth. I don’t let too many people come see my son and I don’t want to put any of him on social media just yet. @petamurgatroyd and I just want to enjoy our little family, together with our loved ones, and take in all the precious moments which we’ll never get back. So be sensitive please. Or not. Either way, hope everyone’s year is off to an incredible start. Ours sure started with a bang ? P.S. Farts, poops and throw-ups are the best!

Murgatroyd has also been open about her journey as a new mom, sharing candid mom moments, like this one of her “leaking boobies,” with her followers. She even launched a website focused on mommy issues and her life.

Love thy self ❤ #Day17 postpartum. I think I’m doing ok….and I’m actually fine with the rate at which my body is shrinking back. After 2 days back at the gym I’m feeling like the old Peta again. I definitely don’t have my 6 pack, and I still have excess skin and rolls on my belly, however I feel good. After all, slow and steady wins the race! I knew I needed to get back into the gym for my own sanity, but I also remind myself (as does Maks ?) that I still need to take it easy. I cannot jump yet and still can’t run a mile, but the exercises I’ve planned out are a good start. Honestly, the hardest part for me is getting my core strength back. Day 1 I couldn’t do a sit up, here’s day 17 and I’m doing 70+ ?????? Ladies, we all have to start somewhere…being an athlete I pride myself on having a lean, strong physique, so believe me this has been a challenge to work through, but as long as you have a loving support network around you, you will be fine ❤ #theresnothinglikehardwork
