Maci Bookout was just settling into life as a mother of two in 2015 when she was surprised to find out that she was expecting yet again.

PEOPLE reports that the Teen Mom OG star opens up about the surprise pregnancy in her new book I Wasn't Born Bulletproof and says that she and husband Taylor McKinney had discussed adopting a third child in the future.

"We never planned on getting pregnant again so soon after [Jayde] was born," Bookout writes. "Maverick was totally unexpected. When I found out I was pregnant, Jayde was still a baby."

The unplanned pregnancy came at a time in Bookout's life when her schedule was full. Bookout was filming a new season of Teen Mom OG, working on a clothing line and juggling mommy duty to Bentley and newborn Jayde.

"Bentley was just getting settled in school and starting to play sports. All I could think was 'How am I going to handle all of this? There's not going to be enough of me to go around,' " she writes.

Bookout also opens up about the health challenges Maverick, born May 2016, experienced. She writes that Maverick had difficulty sleeping and was diagnosed with silent reflux.

"His pediatrician prescribed him medicine to reduce stomach acidity and help relieve the pain, but every time we gave it to him he would push it back out with his tongue or he would get so upset that he would throw the medicine right back up," Bookout explains.

Bookout has three children, Bentley, 8, with ex Ryan Edwards, daughter Jayde, 2, and son Maverick, 1, with McKinney.
