Watch: Christie Brinkley Stands Up for Ex John Mellencamp After Split

There have been a lot of rumors going around about why model Christie Brinkley and singer John Mellencamp recently split. Surprisingly, Brinkley has recently come out slamming the media for creating stories where there are none in terms of the split.

“While much has been written over the years about me that I simply allow to roll off my back … I do stand up for my friends when things seem unfair and this is the case here,” Brinkley said according to ET in a recent Instagram post.

Specifically she is talking about the Page Six story that was published in the tabloid claiming that she and Mellencamp didn’t get along because of his “redneck ways” and her “Hamptons lifestyle.” There are also claims that the two split because they had different political views. Brinkley is known to support Hilary, while the article painted Mellencamp as a Trump supporter.

“He just gave Hilary Clinton his son for her campaign ‘Our Country,’” Brinkley said, showing that politics wasn’t the issue.

What was the issue? Why did the 64-year-old singer and 62-year-old model split? Mileage.

Brinkley says that simply put, their relationship couldn’t last through the distance between their homes and the work demands for the two. She makes sure to say that the split is not “exciting or salacious,” just simply that it wasn’t working out. Though a rep recently said that the two vow to remain close friends.
