In a new interview for CMT’s Hot 20 Countdown, Blake Shelton gushed about girlfriend Gwen Stefani, even going so far as to say that she saved his life, Entertainment Tonight reports.
He says, “It doesn’t look like it would make sense, you know? But all I can tell you is, it does, it just makes the most perfect sense for us and where we’re at in our lives. I tell people all the time, ‘Gwen saved my life last year.’ She did, and I think she would probably tell you something similar about me.”

He’s right! Stefani shared the same thought with Refinery29 in March, saying, “It was a really super-unexpected gift to find a friend, somebody who happened to be going through the exact same thing as me, literally mirroring my experience. I don’t think it’s an accident that that happened. It saved me.”
Shelton also shares that the pair really bonded over a song that they worked on together, their duet called “Go Ahead and Break My Heart,” one that he originally started writing to impress her.
The 39-year-old country star started the song and sent it to her–she responded a few days later after she’d written the second verse.
Stefani revealed to Chelsea Handler on her show Chelsea that the song came at a time when she was really insecure about her songwriting, but says she sat down and just wrote what she felt.
