Celebrities React To Gregg Allman's Untimely Death

The legendary singer-songwriter and co-founder of the Allman Brothers Band, Gregg Allman, died at his home in Savannah, Georgia over the weekend. Allman was 69-years-old.

A statement was released on Allman's official website Saturday giving some insight into his passing. The statement read:

"Gregg struggled with many health issues over the past several years. During that time, Gregg considered being on the road playing music with his brothers and solo band for his beloved fans, essential medicine for his soul. Playing music lifted him up and kept him going during the toughest of times."

Those health issues included Allman being diagnosed with hepatitis C in 1999 and underwent a liver transplant in 2010.

The soulful singer-songwriter and rock 'n' blues pioneer composed classics like Midnight Rider, Melissa and many others. He fronted his band for 45 years, first alongside brother and co-founder Duane until he was killed in a motorcycle accident November 1971.

The drummer for The Beatles, Ringo Starr, left a sentimental message in reaction to Allman's death which read, "Rest in peace Greg Allman peace and love to all the family." He also added a plethora of emojis.

He wasn't the only musician adding emojis to their tribute. Michael Sweet, who is co-founder and lead swinger for the band Stryper as well as the band Boston, took to Twitter sharing his sadness as well as his prayer to Allman's family.

He wrote, "Prayers and thoughts go out to the @GreggAllman family, friends and fans. Heaven has another amazing musician. God Bless you Gregg. L&R," and added a few prayer hands.

Other musicians to speak out include Slash's Todd Kerns who took to twitter, writing, "Very sorry to hear of the passing of Gregg Allman. He was a legend."

Country, bluegrass and Southern rock star Charlie Daniels shared a few tweets to remember his friend Allman. In the first tweet he wrote:

"Just got the word
Greg Allman has passed away
Rest in peace brother
You were the best
Dixie had
You will be missed."

And in another he shared a picture of himself and Allman in their youth with the caption, "

Melissa Etheridge also took to Twitter sharing a few words for the passing of Allman. In her first tweet she wrote, "My southern-rock heart is breaking....#GreggAllman." And in another she shared a pic of Allman showing her his tattoos.

Cher, who shares son Elijah Blue with Allman, took to Twitter to react to the news, writing, "IVE TRIED…WORDS ARE IMPOSSIBLE GUI GUI?FOREVER, CHOOCH?."

"My heart breaks today at the passing of soul brutha Gregg Allman," Keith Urban wrote. "Blessings and peace to all the Allman family."

John Mayer also paid tribute to the musician on Twitter. "Eternal love and life to Gregg Allman. ? RIP ?," he wrote.

It wasn't all celebrities to come out and react over the passing of Allman.

Sherrilyn Ifill, who is a lawyer and President and director-counsel of LDF, took to Twitter to pay respect the legendary musician.

She started off by saying she wasn't much of a country music fan but a few of Allman's songs could held a place in her heart. She wrote, "Not a whole lot of country music songs I love, but "Ramblin' Man" sure is one of them. Rest in Peace Greg Allman."

She also spoke mentioned how Allman was one of the few country artist to speak out against the confederate flag.

"Also appreciated that Allman spoke out against display of Confederate flags," she wrote.

WZLX classic rock morning show team Karlson & McKenzie also wrote words of tribute to Allman, saying, "R.I.P Gregg Allman...December 18, 1947 – May 27, 2017. It is with deep sadness that we announce that Gregg Allman, passed away peacefully…"
