Any movie would greatly appreciate the sophistication that Patrick Stewart brings to the cast, and that is exactly why The Emoji Movie decided to cast him in the film. Granted, his role only allows for so much of that.

Stewart has joined the cast of The Emoji Movie as the Poop emoji, which has become arguably the most popular Emoji (via THR). He isn't the only new addition to the cast either, as Jennifer Coolidge is playing Gene's mother Mary Meh, and Maya Rudolph is joining the cast as Smiler. Alex will be played by Jake T. Austin as well.

The film follows T.J. Miller's character Gene, who is different from all the other emojis due to the fact that he is capable of multiple expressions. He teams up with Ilana Glazer's Jailbreak as they travel through Alex's phone.

The emoji has become a standard of most text and social media communications, and it was only a matter of time before they got their own film. The movie packs a talented and comedically skilled cast, but time will tell if it's a film worth watching all the way through or if the joke loses its charm within the first 5 minutes.

The Emoji Movie is directed by Tony Leondis with a screenplay from Leondis, Eric Siegel, and Mike White. The cast includes T.J. Miller (Gene), James Corden (Hi-5), Rob Riggle (Ice Cream), Ilana Glazer (Jailbreak), Steven Wright (Mel Meh), and Tom Kane (PoopDaddy).

The Emoji Movie hits theaters on August 4, 2017.
