While touring with WWE, it’s crucial for talent to recognize what city or state they’re in– just ask Mick Foley. If the place has some culture they can draw heat off of or get a pop from the crowd by working in, wrestlers will often break out timeless stand-bys like Ohio’s “O-H-I-O” chant, or a little Sinatra when in “New York, New York.”
John Cena decided to pull an old classic out of his bag of tricks while working a Raw house show at the Big Sandy Superstore Arena in Huntington, West Virginia last night.

Cena and Bray Wyatt were set to do battle in the main event, but Bray didn’t seem to come for much of a fight. After three attempts to get the match going, John Cena kept watching his opponent powder out of the ring and head for the hills.
Never one to waste the spotlight, Cena took to the microphone, delivering a promo about how he has a tradition in West Virginia and how long he’s been touring with WWE.
Next, in a move that played even more to the Huntington crowd’s loyalties, Cena proceeded to lead the crowd in a rendition of the John Denver classic, “Country Roads” as you can see in the clip below:

Though many saw this classic heel maneuver from Wyatt coming, it was a great way to draw heat nonetheless. Bray broke up Cena’s song and ended the West Virginia anthem very abruptly. Though Bray had the element of surprise, Cena hit the AA for the win, getting the biggest pop of the night.
It just goes to show you never know what will happen at a WWE Live Event. Those lucky enough to see AJ Styles defeat Kevin Owens for the United States Championship at the Madison Square Garden house show last weekend can attest to that fact.
John Cena made his return to the WWE as a free agent on the Fourth of July, and will face old foe Rusev in a sure to be classic flag-match at WWE Battleground next Sunday.

But Cena’s got plenty on his plate outside of the WWE, when he’s not busy paying tribute to John Denver. The superstar presented at the ESPYs (which he hosted last year) earlier this week, and tomorrow (Monday, July 17th) he’ll appear on daytime television as a guest on “The View,” alongside his mother!
