‘Yellowstone’: Why Young John Dutton Actor Josh Lucas Looks So Familiar

As Yellowstone, it’s hard to not notice how familiar Josh Lucas looks. The 52-year-old actor portrays young John Dutton on the Paramount Western drama, appearing in six episodes. He has appeared in a lot more projects aside from Yellowstone, going all the way back to 1990. His breakout roles were in 1990, appearing in a single episode of True Colors and Life Goes On. Lucas’ first film, meanwhile, was in 1993 in Alive and Father Hood in supporting roles.

One of his most known roles came in 2002 with the romantic comedy . Lucas starred as Jake, the soon-to-be ex-husband of Reese Witherspoon’s Melanie. He’s been refusing to sign divorce papers, but after Melanie has a drunk night out and he drives her home, she wakes up the following morning to find the signed papers. Melanie later discovers that Jake had followed her to New York after their split. During her wedding to someone else, she reveals she still loves Jake, and the two have a daughter together amidst their thriving careers.

The film brought in $180.6 million in the box office on a $30 million budget, proving it to be a success. Sweet Home Alabama is definitely still a beloved movie even after 21 years and is often airing on TV. At one point, it was revealed that a Sweet Home Alabama, but as of now, it hasn’t gotten off the ground. If you can’t catch Lucas in that movie, he has also been in American Psycho, A Beautiful Mind, Hulk, Ford v Ferrari, The Forever Purge, and many more. He was most recently in the sci-fi thriller The Black Demon. He is also starring in the action crime thriller Blood for Dust, which had its debut at the Tribeca Film Festival over the summer.

On the TV side, Josh Lucas had steady one-episode appearances in the early ’90s. In 1994, he landed a main role on the Australian adventure drama The Man from Snowy River. He also had main roles in the 2012 series The Firm and the NBC procedural dramedy The Mysteries of Laura, which lasted two seasons. Other TV roles include Will & Grace, Long Slow Exhale, Jake and the Fatman, Parker Lewis Can’t Lose, and In the Heat of the Night. Lucas is set to star in the upcoming Apple TV+ period comedy Palm Royale alongside Kristen Wiig, Laura Dern, Allison Janney, Leslie Bibb, Ricky Martin, and Carol Burnett.

Josh Lucas has been on a lot of shows and movies throughout his career, and he is not slowing down any time soon. Luckily, fans are able to catch him in some episodes of , either on Peacock or weekly on Sundays on CBS. Season 2 is continuing on the network starting this weekend, so the show isn’t going anywhere.
