Fall 2017 TV Preview: Every New Series Announced So Far

Over the last week or so, TV networks have been feverishly renewing, canceling, and in some cases un-cancelling their current roster of shows. All of these moves were made to make room for the new pilots that had been ordered to series.

So, if your favorite show was canceled, there is a silver lining to be found. Each of the major TV networks has ordered quite a few new shows to series.

This upcoming roster includes some off-the-wall concepts, such as Seth MacFarlane’s live-action Star Trek spoof, to some more tried and true ideas, like Marvel & DC superhero shows, and everything in-between.

By the looks of these new shows, this is going to be one interesting fall. There are definitely some potential hits hidden among all of these shows, and there’s sure to be a couple of duds as well.

If you’re unsure as to what’s coming this fall, have no fear. Here’s a list of the new shows on every network, and a short description as to what you can expect.

ABC

ABC hasn’t held its annual Upfrontsย event yet, so there isn’t any kind of set schedule online. However, after cancelling quite a few shows, the network has plenty of new projects ready to debut this fall – 10 in total. Depending on scheduling, some of these shows may not premiere until the early months of 2018.

The Crossing

Premise:ย Refugees from a war-torn country start showing up to seek asylum in an American town. Only the country these people are from is America and the war they are fleeing is 250 years in the future. The local sheriff with a past, a federal agent and a mother in search of her missing refugee daughter drive this allegory with a surprising conspiracy at the center.

Deception

Premise:ย When his career is ruined by scandal, superstar magician Cameron Black has only one place to turn to practice his art of deception, illusion and influence: the FBI. He’ll become the world’s first consulting illusionist, helping the government solve crimes that defy explanation and trap criminals and spies by using deception.

For The People

The Good Doctor

Cast: Freddie Highmore, Antonia Thomas, Nicholas Gonzalez, Chukuย Modu, Richard Schiff, Beau Garrett

Premise:ย A young surgeon with Savant syndrome is recruited into the pediatric surgical unit of a prestigious hospital. The question will arise: Can a person who doesn’t have the ability to relate to people actually save their lives? Based on the 2013 South-Korean series of the same name.

The Gospel Of Kevin

Cast: Jason Ritter, JoAnnaย Garcia Swisher, Cristela Alonzo, J. August Richards, India de Beaufort, Dustin Ybarra, Chloe East

Premise:ย The one-hour dramedy revolves around Kevin, a down-on-his-luck man who is tasked by God with a mission to save the world.

Marvel’sย The Inhumans

Premise:ย The eight-episode series will explore the never-before-told adventure of Black Bolt and the royal family. Based on the characters from Marvel Comics.

The Mayor

Premise:ย The Mayorย is about a young rapper who needs his big break. For years, he’s toiled away in a small inner-city apartment, making music in his junk-filled bedroom closet. Tired of waiting for opportunity, Courtney cooks up the publicity stunt of the century: running for mayor of his hometown in California to generate buzz for his music career. Unfortunately for him, his master plan goes wildly awry, ending in the most terrifying of outcomes: an election victory. With the help of his mother and friends, including Valentina, Courtney will have to overcome his hubris if he wants to transform the struggling city he loves.

Splitting Up Together

Premise:ย Based on the podcast of the same name, the comedy follows Alex Schuman, an inquisitive journalist, husband, and father who dives headfirst into the brave new world of entrepreneurship when he quits his stable job and starts his own business.

Ten Days In The Valley

Premise:ย The 10-episode series centers on TV producer Jane Sadler, whose young daughter goes missing, mirroring the cop drama she produces.

NBC

NBC also has a lot on its upcoming slate. These projects are all over the board, ranging from a science teacher comedy, to a devastating military operation. Since NBCย has already announced its fall schedule, some of these new shows already have a time-slot.

A.P. Bio

The Brave

Premise: A heart-pounding look into the complex world of our bravest military heroes who make personal sacrifices while executing the most challenging and dangerous missions behind enemy lines.ย Airs Mondays at 10 pm ET

Champions

Premise:ย Champions tells the story ofย Vince, a charismatic gym owner with no ambition who lives with his younger brother, Michael, a gorgeous idiot. Good Girls

Premise: Three “good girl” suburban wives and mothers suddenly find themselves in desperate circumstances and decide to stop playing it safe and risk everything to take their power back.ย Good Girls won’t premiere until midseason.ย 

Law & Order True Crime: The Menendez Murders

Stars: Edie Falco

Premise: This eight-episode installment of Dick Wolf’s popular franchise delivers a gripping in-depth dramatization of the notorious murder case that changed America forever. When the Menendez brothers were tried on national TV for brutally killing their parents in Beverly Hills, their story became a national obsession. Now, the first edition of this anthology series delves into the players, the crime and the media circus, detailing the day-to-day battles of the trial and unveiling the shocking truth of what really went down when the cameras stopped rolling.ย Airs Thursdays at 10 pm ET

Reverie

Rise

Premise: Based on the book Drama High by Michael Sokolove and the life of drama teacher Lou Volpe, the series revolves around a high school drama teacher and family man whose passion for the program and his students galvanizes the entire working class town.

Will & Grace

Premise: Eleven years after going off the air, the former Must-See TV staple will return for 12 new episodes.ย Airs Thursdays at 8 pm ET

FOX

Unlike the other networks, Fox is only adding a few new shows to its line-up. While the amount of projects may be smaller, they certainly swing for the fences. Even the comedies in this new line-up will be fairly expensive. Almost all of these series’ were already added to the official Fox fall line-up.

9-1-1

Stars: Angela Bassett

Premise: There is no official synopsis as of yet, but the series was given a 13-episode order, and it said to be filmed in the vein of ER.

Ghosted

Stars: Adam Scott, Craig Robinson, Edi Patterson, Ally Walker, Adeel Akhtar

Producers: Tom Gormican, Adam Scott, Craig Robinson, Kevin Etten

Premise: A cynical skeptic (Robinson) and a genius “true believer” (Scott) in the paranormal are recruited by The Bureau Underground to look into the rampant “unexplained” activity in Los Angeles โ€“ all while uncovering a larger mystery that could threaten the existence of the human race.ย Airs Sundays at 8:30 pm ET

The Gifted

Stars: Stephen Moyer, Amy Acker, Jamie Chung, Coby Bell, Blair Redford, Sean Teale, Natalie Alyn Lind, Emma Dumont, Percy Hynes White

Producers: Matt Nix, Jeph Loeb, Bryan Singer

Premise: The series follows two ordinary parents who discover their children possess mutant powers. Forced to go on the run from a hostile government, the family joins up with an underground network of mutants and must fight to survive.ย Based on Marvel’sย X-Men, the series will air Mondays at 9 pm ET.

LA>Vegas

The Orville

Facing cosmic challenges from without and within, this motley crew of space explorers will boldly go where no comedic drama has gone before. Airs Thursdays at 9 pm ET

The Resident

When you look at the new shows for CBS, you realize the network is doing what it does best. The line-up features familiar faces, plenty of comedies, and a spin-off of an existing series. It’s the most CBSย roster you could imagine.

9JKL

Wisdom Of The Crowd

Young Sheldon

Premise: The Big Bang Theory prequel spin-off follows Sheldon Cooper (Armitage) at the age of 9, living with his family in East Texas and going to high school.

CW

Since The CW is a slightly smaller network, less new shows can be expected, and the network delivered accordingly. There will be three new series’ added to CW’sย line-up. The most notable newcomer is easily Black Lightning, which will mark the network’s fifth foray into the world of DC comics.

Black Lightning

Premise: Jefferson Pierce (Cress Williams) made his choice: He hung up the suit and his secret identity years ago, but with one daughter hell-bent on justice and the other a star student being recruited by a local gang, he’ll be pulled back into the fight as the wanted vigilante and DC legend Black Lightning.

Dynasty

Stars: Nathalie Kelley, Elizabeth Gillies, Grant Show, Sam Adegoke, Robert Christopher Riley, Rafael de la Fuente, Brianna Brown, Alan Dale

Premise: The modernized reboot of the ’80s soap follows two of America’s wealthiest families, the Carringtons and the Colbys, as they feud for control over their fortune and their children. The drama will be told primarily through the perspectives of two women at odds: Fallon Carrington โ€“ daughter of billionaire Blake Carrington โ€“ and her soon-to-be stepmother, Cristal, a Hispanic woman marrying into this WASP family and America’s most powerful class.

Valor

Stars: Matt Barr, Charlie Barnett, Christina Ochoa, Nigel Thatch, Corbin Reid, Melissa Roxburgh, W. Trรฉ Davis

Producers: Bill Haber, Kyle Jarrow

Premise: Set at a U.S. Army base that houses an elite unit of helicopter pilots trained to perform clandestine international and domestic missions, the drama unfolds in the present as well as in flashbacks to a failed mission involving one of the first female pilots in the unit, ultimately uncovering layers of personal and government/military secrets, and leading to a season-long plan to rescue a group of MIA soldiers.
