After a new interview with Showrunner Brian Yorkey, it was revealed that there’s still more Hannah to be seen even though the show pretty much tapped out their source material from the young adult novel in season one.
“What I can tell you is that certainly one question I get a lot is, ‘How can there be a Season 2 when the story’s over?’ My response is, ‘What story is over?’ ” Yorkey said.
” ‘Well, Hannah’s story is over.’ Well, Hannah told her version of events, but there are at least 12 kids who have another version of those events that we actually haven’t really heard from yet. So I think there’s quite a bit more of Hannah’s story to tell,” he added.
Katherine Langford, who plays Hannah on the show, also spoke about her role in the upcoming season, saying, “We’re going to see Hannah in flashbacks. We’re going to see parts of Hannah’s life that we didn’t in Season 1. We haven’t really gone into that much detail but I know that we’re going to continue that dialogue and keep developing the story.”

In a previous interview, Yorkey admitted that Hannah’s narration, which was a staple of the first season of 13 Reasons Why, will not play a part in the new season.
“And there’s voiceover in every episode, but the voiceover is no longer Hannah. The voiceover and the stories that are being told bring us into the past and back to the present much in the way that Hannah’s voiceover did in season 1. So there will still be that weaving of time frames and seeing them unfold and how they impact each other as they go,” he explained.
So while her role in the show will be altered significantly, fans of the show can rest assured that Hannah will still be an integral part of 13 Reasons Why for the foreseeable future.
Until the new season arrives, however, all fans have to go on is what the first season gave them, and this has led to some pretty insane theories they’ve conjured up themselves. We’ve compiled that list for you to check out below.
Scroll down to read about some crazy ’13 Reasons Why’ fan theories
Theory #1: Could Tony be a ghost?
Tony, the lovable modern day greaser portrayed by Christian Navarro, has been portrayed as Clay’s guardian angel throughout the series. However, some fans were under the impression that Tony might actually be a ghost.
These particular theorists called light to the fact that Tony wears ’50s style outfits and has outdated mannerisms. They hypothesize that Tony could actually be a ghost that belongs to another time period.
While this theory is intriguing, it is also the one that has been nearly universally debunked. One shred of evidence that does not support the theory that Tony is a ghost is that there are no supernatural tones to the series. Another problem with this theory is that Tony has interacted with characters that are not Clay.
Theory #2: Could Hannah be alive?
Theย primary storyline forย 13 Reasons Whyย revolves aroundย teenageย girl named Hannah committing suicide and leaving behind a series of tapes for those who were involved in her life. Despite this, some fans are theorizing that Hannah could actually be alive.
Aย Redditย userย pointed out the fact that the show uses the Butterfly Effect in that one small change can alter the course of the story. Up to this point, the general assumption has been that every incident led to Hannah’s suicide. However, it could be possible that one small act of kindness changes the course of history and Hannah decides not to kill herself.
The entire story would then be a hypothetical look at what could have happened.
Another similar theory states that Hannah is actually alive in theย show’sย currentย timeline. The evidence to this theory is that only Tony and Hannah’s parents witnessed her death. Every other character on the show learned of her death through word of mouth.
Theory #3: Does Tyler have a dark future?
Fans of the show have seen that Tyler has suspicious habits with guns. Over the course of the series, Tyler is frequently bullied by Clay.ย
Clay has done terrible things to Tyler, like sending naked photos of him to classmates.ย Oneย Redditย userย is under the impression that Tyler could become a serial killer.
In the final episode of Season 1, Tyler is shown with a suitcase full of guns. Theย Redditย user thinks that Tyler might not be planning to murder one person, but rather many people in a massive killing spree.
The user also theorizes Tyler is hanging up the pictures of the characters he intends to kill. Whileย the show definitely has a dark vibe, this storyline seems too sinister to be true.
Theory #4: Did Alex really commit suicide?
The first season ofย 13 Reasons Whyย ends on a massiveย cliffhanger. Alex, who is portrayed by Milesย Heizer, is suffering from aย headshotย wound and it is uncertain as to whether he will survive. Because the show revolves around the controversial subject of teen suicide, many fans are under the impression that he shot himself.
Also, throughout the show, Alex and Hannah have displayed several similarities in their personality so it wouldn’t be outside the realm of possibility for Alex to kill himself.
However, some fans are speculating that Alex’s gunshot wound was not self-inflicted and that there was another shooter involved in the incident. Theorists are guessing that Devin Druid’s character, Tyler, actually pulled the trigger.
During an interview withย The Hollywood Reporter, Milesย Heizerย addressed the theory.
“That’s another subject that’s very rarely shown onscreen and is probably a lot more common than people think it is. People attempting to take their lives and it not happening, I’m sure that will bring a crazy set of issues,” he said. “It would be interesting to go into that.”
The supporters of this theory recall the scene in which Tyler’s suitcase of guns indicates that he had a sinister plan in mind.
