Photoshop and retouched photos are everywhere these days, but one place they’re conspicuously absent? On Teen Mom Mackenzie Douthit’s Instagram. The reality star posted a bracingly honest caption the other day, explaining that while she might normally try to retouch her photos (adding “a nice filter…to show less of what happened to my Tum tum after 3 babies”), she’s fed up with the dishonesty behind fitspo images.

“I have so many mommies who follow me who are striving to fall in love with their bodies and be comfortable in their own skin. It’s only fair to be realistic,” Douthit wrote alongside a photo of herself in a sports bra at the gym.
Dismissing a culture that expects women’s bodies to be perfect at all times at the expense of their self-image and mental health, she encouraged her followers to look beyond the superficial. The 22-year old spread words of encouragement to her fans, stating simply, “mom bodies are beautiful. Lose skin, stretch marks, ALL OF IT. We created humans.”

Though Douthit has given birth to three children, she’s not about to give up on her dream of being a bikini model. As is evident from her Insta snaps, she’s often in the gym chasing her goal and helping her body bounce back. Beyond her own personal journey, Mackenzie’s online fitness program BodyByMac is still going strong. A combination of workout routines, diet plans and other fitness aids, her program is helping moms across the country get back in shape in their own living rooms.
While we think all moms deserve a round of applause regardless of what their post-baby bodies look like, we can’t help but be impressed by Douthit’s abs…and her no-bullshit attitude toward accurately documenting her fitness journey. With so many moms’ bodies being critiqued at every turn, especially on social media, her frank, confessional post is a breath of fresh air.
