Zoe Saldana has been battling an autoimmune disorder called Hashimoto's thyroiditis, the actress revealed in an interview with Net-a-Porter's The Edit. Saldana's mother and sisters are also affected by the disease.

"Your body doesn't have the energy it needs to filter toxins, causing it to believe that it has an infection, so it's always inflamed," Saldana explained. "You create antibodies that attack your glands, so you have to eat clean."

Because of this, Saldana and her husband, artist Marco Perego, are now gluten and dairy-free.

"I had a great time in my twenties," the actress shared. "Then your doctor says you're losing calcium in your bones. What the f*** is that?! I would hear those conversations with my mom and grandma, thinking I'd never get there. I'm going to live forever! But all of a sudden it hits you. I s*** you not, it's from night to day."

Along with staying healthy, the actress is also staying busy, as she has several films coming up including Guardians of the Galaxy 2 and three more Avatar movies. Saldana's latest film, Star Trek Beyond, hits theatres Friday.
