Woman Who Claimed She Lost Baby During Gender-Reveal Party Mass Shooting Was Not Pregnant: Police

The police are now revealing that the Ohio woman who told the local media that she lost her child during her gender reveal party that turned into a deadly mass shooting was never pregnant.

On July 8, 21-year-old Cheyanne Willis was hosting a party when two shooters opened fire on the group as they were watching a movie. There were nine people shot.

Willis was shot in the leg while one of her friends, 21-year-old Autumn Garrett, was killed.

After Willis was released from the hospital, she told the news that he lost her baby in the shooting. However, the Colerain Township police are saying that she was never pregnant.

"As ridiculous as it might be, it's not a crime to lie, its not a crime to have a party over that lie," says Police spokesman James Love, according to People. "Now if she lied and put everyone in the danger — of course the shooters would be the main focus but [to press charges] would be a decision up to the local prosecutors."

Amber White, Willis' sister, spoke out about the situation saying that her sibling was "excited" to be a mother.

"She had a miscarriage right before and she's been wanting a child," White, who is a mother herself, said. "She's a great aunt."

Mark Denney, the Colerain Township Police Chief, discussed the crime at a news conference last Sunday. He said that the suspects entered the home through the front door, but it was unclear if they forced their way in or were invited.

In the shooting, there were three children of ages 2, 6, and 8 that were shot and wounded.

Denney also released a statement in which he announced the difficulties that the investigators on the case are facing.

"That information [regarding Willis' pregnancy] is not provided to embarrass anyone, only to provide a fair understanding of the challenges we have faced in the past nine days. The Colerain Police Department will not comment further on any other misleading information, other than to say we wish our time had been spent on true leads that would help us remove these dangerous criminals from the streets," the statement reads.

"We ask that those with information to respect the fact that resources will be used to follow up on every lead or tip. Providing misleading information only makes the task of solving this crime more difficult. We will be consulting with the Hamilton County Prosecutor in the coming days to update their office and seek advice on how to proceed with some of our information."
