A new detail in the Laci Peterson murder, a crime that took place back nearly fifteen years ago, might be turning the case completely upside down. In the new six-part A&E series, The Murder of Laci Peterson, investigators take a closer look to uncover new facts that could reveal the truth of the horrific crime.
Peterson, who was eight months pregnant at the time, went missing on Christmas Eve in 2002. Her husband, Scott Peterson, was convicted of her murder in the first-degree as well as the second-degree murder of their unborn son. New evidence suggests that Scott could possibly be innocent of the crime for which he was sentenced to death row.

On December 24, the day Laci went missing, Diane Jackson, a neighbor of Laci and Scott, says she saw three men outside a home across the street. The home, which belonged to the Medinas, was robbed that same day at 6:30 am.
At the time, law enforcement officials claim that the robbery actually took place on December 26, not Christmas Eve. Jackson says that the police dismissed her sightings and claims that the robbers were there on Christmas Eve.
In contrast to what the cops have said, there is strong evidence against the assertion that the robbery took place two days after Laci went missing. Keep scrolling to learn the new evidence that has surfaced.
TV Reporter Says There’s No Way the Burglary Happened on December 26
Tedย Rowlands, a reporter withย KTVU, has stated that he was in front of the house at 5 am on December 26 and says that there was absolutely no break-in that occurred at the time.
“The police said the burglary took place on December 26 not December 24,”ย Rowlandsย said. “The problem with that is, I was standing outside that house at five in the morning on December 26 and if the burglars were there I would have interviewed them, because there was nobody outside theย front of that house.”
Rowlandsย continued by saying: “My head was on a swivel that morning and there is absolutely no way a burglar took place on December 26.”
After Laci’s disappearance, reporters were outside the Peterson home every day for the next few months. This fact lends more credence to the possibility that the robbers could have been the three men that Jackson saw on Christmas eve.
Diane Jackson Corroborates Rowlands’ Claims
On the A&E documentary, Jackson gave her recollection of the events that transpired.
“December 24 I was on my way home and when I went by [Rudy and Susan Medina’s] house, I sawย people on the lawn and a van,” Jackson said. “I noticed it because they all turned around and looked at me and I thought, ‘Hmm, that’s weird.’”
“I didn’t put it together until a neighbor said theย Medinasย just came home and their home was burglarized while they were gone and they think it was the 24th.”
After Jackson learned that the Medinasย home was robbed, she immediately called for the police. However, when the discussed the situation with the authorities, Jackson says that the cops tried to tell her at one point that she confused the men she saw in the yard with people working in her own yard.
Jackson even says that she was hypnotized during the investigation, in an apparent attempt to alter her story. Despite this shocking assertion, Jackson’s story never changed.
Scott Peterson Speaks Out
The premiere episode of the docuseriesย also recounted the final moments between Scott and Laci before her disappearance. Audio from a never-before-heard phone call from Scott to Laciย was aired.
“Hey beautiful, I just left a message at home. It’s 2:15 (pm), I’m leaving Berkeley. I won’t be able to get to Vella Farms to get that basket for papa. I was hoping you would get this message and go on out there,” Scott says in a message left onย Laci’s voicemail. “I’ll see you in a bit sweetie. Love ya, bye.”
Scott would never see hisย wife again, and the following April he was taken into custody after her body and the fetus of their unborn son washed up off the coast near Berkeley, according to Daily Mail.
While speaking from the San Quentin State Prison, Peterson says that the day started off much like any other.
“I don’t know what time we got up, probably Laciย got up and went in the shower, she had some cereal for breakfast,” he said. “Eats right when she wakes up otherwise she gets sick because she’s pregnant. I laid in bed a little longer and got up at eight o’clock probably or so. We were watching her favorite show, Martha Stewart. She was gonna finish cleaning up, she was mopping the kitchen floor and then she was going to take the dog for a walk.”
Shortly after 10 am, Scott left the home to go fishing and would never see Laciย again.
The Moment Scott Realized Something Was Wrong
After leaving the house around 10 am, Scott has an alibi for all hours of the day leading up until the time he arrived back home around 5 pm. When he first got back to their Modesto home, Scott says he didn’t notice anything immediately wrong.
“The only unusual things were the leash [on the dog] and the door being unlocked. I assumed she was at her mom’s,” Scott said. “Put my clothes in the washer grabbed some pizza from the fridge. Got milk and after I get out of the shower and put clothes on I call Sharon.”
This call was placed around 5:17 pm and was 30 minutes later that Laci’s stepfather called 911 to report that Laci could be missing.
“I wasn’t the last one to see Laciย that day. There were so many witnesses that saw her walking in the neighborhood after I left,” Scott said.
There are 11 witnesses that support the claim that Laciย was seen after Scott left his home.
