Netflix Renews 'Ozark' for Season 2

After a ton of buzz from fans and acclaim from critics, Netflix has officially renewed Ozark for a second season.

The crime drama, which stars Jason Bateman and Laura Linney, premiered on July 21 with a 10-episode first season. Netflix has said the second season will also consist of 10 episodes.

Along with the reveal, Netflix shared a teaser trailer for the new season. It only clocks in at about 20 seconds and starts off with protagonist Marty Byrde (Bateman) lying face-up on a trampoline, staring into the sky.

The shot then fades out to an "O" with four symbols inside: the Netflix logo, a play button, the Roman numeral "II" and a vulture.

The Netflix title card then comes up and confirms that new episodes are "coming soon" to the streaming platform.

Back in July, Ozark's showrunner, Chris Mundy, had high hopes that the series would be renewed and would possibly even carry on for five seasons.

"We've always talked about five," he said. "Four would be fine, six would probably be fine, but it's always felt like that's a good number to tell the story."

Linney was also hopeful of the show's future, saying she'd "be very happy with eight" seasons of the show.

The series focuses on the mild-mannered money launderer Marty, who is forced to relocate his family to Missouri after an unfortunate revelation comes to light. From there, he must start a whole new branch of a criminal empire while his family adjusts to the sudden life change.

Ozark's first season is currently streaming on Netflix.
