‘Teen Mom’ Cast Members Who Have Been Arrested or Worse

All the cast members of MTV’s Teen Mom shows have lived through their fair share of drama. However, several of them have experienced trouble of a more serious nature in having run-ins with the law.

On multiple occasions, the reality star mothers and/or their significant others have been arrested for crimes ranging from drug-related charges to domestic violence disputes. Most shockingly, some of the incidents have even been documented on video and aired on MTV.

Amber Portwood Sentenced to Prison on Drug Charges (2012)

On May 24, 2012, Amber Portwood was sentenced to time behind bars after she violated her drug court probation requirements by failing a urine test and then lying about it.

Originally, the mother of Leah was sentenced to five years in prison. However, she ended up serving a total of 16 months at the Rockville Correctional Facility in Indiana before being released on good behavior.

Her first arrest was in 2010 on felony domestic violence charges. She was seen on MTV shoving, punching, slapping, and choking her then-boyfriend, Gary Shirley. 

Back in 2015, Portwood spoke out about her time in jail.

“I think I’ve changed a lot. It’s hard to think about the past because I can’t remember half of it,” she said while talking with E! News. “Now, [I’m] living a sober life and trying to do good things. I’m trying to be normal.”

Jenelle Evans Arrested For Alleged Assault (2015)

Jenelle Evans had several run-ins with the law in 2015 with one of the most memorable instances being when she was arrested for allegedly assaulting her ex-fiancé Nathan Griffith’s girlfriend.

Griffith’s girlfriend claimed that Evans threw a drinking glass at her head. Read the MTV starlet’s account of the events that transpired below:

“I went to throw water in her face, did not mean to the cup to hit her at all. And I threw it this way [making throwing gesture], and it slid out of my hand and it hit her in the head. Once it landed in her lap, I turned around to run back inside because I felt like I was about to be attacked. And she picked up the glass and she threw it back at me, did not hit me, and then I went inside the house. As I was running in the house, he was screaming ‘you will not have your child back. I will make sure he gets taken from you forever. And you will never see him again. So I started panicking so bad, because I was already moving. I was in the process of moving, and for him to bring her over to me is so disrespectful. I just try to be a good person, and a good mom that’s all.”

Earlier that same year, Evans was arrested for another domestic violence dispute with Griffith. He told police that Evans called him from a blocked number requesting that he come outside, which he did because she said she was damaging his car.

When Griffith walked outside, Evans said, “Now I know where you live!”

Griffith says that Evans then began “slapping, punching, and trying to kick [him] down the stairs.”

Evans and Griffith got engaged in January 2015 but later called it off in July of the same year.

Farrah Abraham Arrested for DUI (2013)

Arguably Teen Mom‘s most controversial star, Farrah Abraham, was arrested for driving under the influence back in 2013.

The mother of one, who was 21 at the time, was busted in Omaha, Nebraska after making a wide turn and nearly hitting a police cruiser, TMZ reported.

The law enforcement officers then administered a standard field sobriety test in which Abraham failed. After being taken to the police station, the 16 & Pregnant alum blew a .147 on the breathalyzer.

Abraham was sentenced to a $500 fine and six months of court-mandated sobriety. She was able to strike a deal after confessing to driving drunk.

Adam Lind Tests Positive for Meth (2017)

Just this week, Teen Mom 2‘s Adam Lind tested positive for methamphetamines during Monday’s episode of the MTV reality show. The incident effectively pushed back a court date in which he was hoping to lower his child support.

Lind is the father of series star Chelsea Houska’s 7-year-old daughter, Aubree. Houska, 25, has spoken out about Lind’s drug use.

“I wish she didn’t have a drug addict father,” Houska said when she heard the news of Lind’s latest drug-related incident.

Houska is currently married to husband Cole DeBoer, and the two share son Watson, who was born in January.

Ryan Edwards Nods off While Driving to His Own Wedding

On the season finale of Teen Mom OG this past June, Ryan Edwards married Mackenzie Standifer. When the camera showed the couple driving to their wedding, it became evident that Edwards wasn’t all there.

Edwards, who shares a child with Teen Mom star Maci Bookout, picked Standifer up to go to their wedding, and he began to doze in and out of consciousness while behind the wheel. The show even flashed warnings of ‘disturbing scenes’ as he was clearly driving under the influence.

He first blamed his swerving on the sun, but the removal of his sunglasses offered further evidence to the assumption that there was something in Edwards’ system.

Standifer tried to help by reaching over and steadying the wheel, despite her obvious state of panic. She even went so far as to turn the cameras off.

After the episode aired, MTV came under fire for showing the footage and not intervening in the situation at the time.

“MTV does not condone driving under the influence. Ryan’s erratic behavior was due to actions that he took without anyone’s prior knowledge,” an MTV spokesperson said in a statement toUs Weekly.

Edwards released a statement shortly after the episode aired to confirm that he went to rehab.

“A little over 30 days ago, I made the decision to check myself into a rehabilitation facility. I am back home now doing well, and life could not be better,” he said. “Without the support of my wife and parents I would not have been able to do this. Thank you all for your well wishes.”
