On the latest episode of Deadliest Catch, one of its captains decided he was setting sail for the last time. Johnathan Hillstrand, captain of the FV Time Bandit, went out on his last voyage, and it was an emotional experience for the whole crew.

“37 years of pain and suffering,” Hillstrand said jokingly about his time on the water. “I can’t wait to get home.”

The Time Bandit‘s portion of the episode was all about the departing captain ending his season on one last huge haul. He said he wanted to go “out on top, like a champion, hopefully.”

However, things were off to a rocky start, with the crew’s survey not being accurate and leading to a disappointing batch.

“The survey can f–k itself,” Hillstrand said. “I don’t need this stress [and] pressure.”

However, the seasoned vet decided to with his gut and sail out to a favorite spot, where he had previous successful outings. Hillstrand was right to trust his instinct, as they got a massive haul.

“I don’t believe this is real,” Hillstrand said.

After the last batch, the captain was greeted with well wishes from his crew and fellow Deadliest Catch captains. It was an emotional ending for one of the show’s most beloved cast member.

“I have a peaceful feeling about it,” he said. “I just know it’s time to go.”
