Fate Of The Furious is easily one of the most highly-anticipated movies of 2017, so why not take a look back at what has made the franchise so successful?

The franchise has enjoyed seven films so far, although it’s rumored to go for 10, and has beenone of Hollywood’s biggest money makers of the last decade. What began as an indie street-racing movie has turned into a global phenomenon.

Millions across the world have fallen in love with the House That Diesel built, so we’ve decided to rank the films of the franchise in preparation for its eighth entry.

7. 2 Fast 2 Furious

The absence of Vin Diesel, as well as many of the franchise’s main characters, helped to make the first Furious sequel the most forgettable of the series. 

It was no surprise that Brian O’Conner was going to turn in his badge after the first movie, but it seems silly to run off and leave the new family you just made. 

While the stunts and special effects are fairly cheap-looking, the 2 Fast does get recognition for introducing Roman and Tej to the story.

6. The Fast And The Furious: Tokyo Drift

Tokyo Drift made it seem like the Furious franchise was destined for cheap knock-off movies, but it still managed to tie everything together with Han’s death and Dom’s cameo at the end.

Lucas Black and Bow-Wow did a good job filling in those roles, but it was tough to get invested in a movie that felt nothing like the rest of the franchise. 

The movie is pretty easy to forget, but the tie-ins to the other films make it a must-watch for Furious fans.

5. Fast & Furiuos

The fourth Furious movie, with the re-worked title of the original, was the first one to bring all of the original characters back together. 

Fast & Furious did a great job of restarting the franchise, but it’s pretty overshadowed by the films that came after it. Without a really memorable scene – save for Letty’s death – it’s hard to compare this movie to its counterparts.

4. The Fast And The Furious

While the newer films of the franchise have risen to new heights, it’s hard to ignore the events that The Fast And The Furious set into motion. 

The first film was made on a much lower budget, but changed how audiences felt about street racing flicks. The fast cars, campy dialogue, and relatable characters made this indie-racer one to remember.

3. Fast & Furious 6

The resurrection of Letty was a treat for Furious fans, and watching the first team-up between The Rock and Vin Diesel was worth the price of admission.

Luke Evans became one of the most memorable villains of the entire franchise, but it was the film’s climax that fans will remember most. 

Yes, that 20-minute airplane chase was one of the most ridiculous scenes in cinematic history, but it’s also one of the most enjoyable. Crazy-action-fun at its finest.

2. Fast Five

Fast Five was arguably the most important entry in the entire franchise. While the fourth film brought everyone back together, the fifth perfected the formula of what has made this series thrive.

This movie succeeded in tying all of the previous entries together, bringing in Han from Tokyo Drift, Vince from The Fast And The Furious, and Roman and Tej from 2 Fast 2 Furious.

Fast Five also succeeded in taking the franchise to the next level by bringing in The Rock. The character of Hobbs is one of the most important to the series at this point, and his introduction as an opposing force was exactly what the movies needed.

1. Furious 7

Like fine wines, Fast and Furious has only gotten better with age. The seventh installment – which one the People’s Choice Award for Best Film – is easily the best of the series.

Losing Paul Walker was a tragedy, but Vin Diesel and friends found the perfect way to honor his legacy and send his character off in the most respectful way. Combine that tribute with Jason Statham’s introduction, and Furious 7 is the quintessential action blockbuster.
