Reality TV is the phenomenon that puts regular everyday people in completely fabricated situations and plays if off as if it is everyday life. Of course, some shows are definitely more “real” than others, in the sense that something like that could happen in real life, others, are definitely far from a regular situation. Either way, this is one of the best ways to get the most drama out of your television viewing experience.

Whether you enjoy a good season or two of the Bravo franchise The Real Housewives or a look at the lives of the Teen Mom crowd, you’re likely to recognize a few of the situations that the reality stars find themselves in. For example, we’ve all had spats with our friend or significant others – we just didn’t have a camera in our face encouraging our biggest dramatic responses when it happened.

On the other side of the reality tv coin are competition shows, such as Survivor or The Bachelor, these situations are where you’ll find everyday people doing some of the most intense and insane things you’d ever seen. Will you ever have to worry about putting together a shelter in the middle of the jungle with a group of strangers? Probably not, but it still brings out the best – and worst – in others.
