WWE star John Cena treated the fans to more than they bargained for during his match on Monday night. The 39-year-old wrestler showed off some surprisingly impressive singing chops in front of the WWE Universe at a SmackDown live event at WesBanco Arena in Wheeling, West Virginia.

“Country roads, take me home, to the place where I belong: West Virginia, mountain momma, take me home, country roads,” he sang from the middle of the ring. Cena is no stranger to music as many WWE fans will recall. Years ago, he was an aspiring hip hop artist with his debut album “You Can’t See Me” being released in 2005. Also, Cena most recently collaborated with Pittsburgh native Wiz Khalifa on a couple tracks for the WWE 2K15 video game.

At the SmackDown event when Cena sang to the crowd, he was defeated in a Triple Threat match that pitted him against Dean Ambrose and A.J. Styles, the latter of which was the victor. Styles took down Cena with a low blow to gain a decisive advantage and subsequently pinned him down.

However, the 15-time world champion was able to get the last laugh alongside “The Lunatic Fringe,” as they belted out John Denver’s classic tune “Take Me Home, Country Roads” while leaving Styles in pain in the middle of the ring.

When the WWE stars visit Heath Slater’s home state, singing “Country Roads” has become a tradition that John Cena has once again kept alive. Thanks to the fans at the event who captured the moment on video, we can all enjoy the moment for ourselves.

Earlier in the day, Cena visited the local eatery Avenue Eats for lunch. The restaurant posted a photo with the wrestler on Facebook along with the caption: “hey WWE fans (and really everyone), this guy stopped in for a burger today before his match tonight. thanks John Cena!”
