It seems like the upcoming film adaptation of A Wrinkle in Time has nabbed its lead actress. In an exclusive, The Hollywood Reporter is saying Storm Reid has signed onto the project.

Directed by Ava DuVernay, A Wrinkle in Time is being overseen by Walt Disney Studios. The film, which was announced a few years ago, has slowly assembled an all-star cast. Talent like Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon, and Mindy Kaling will also star in the film in supporting roles. The actresses are set to play helpful guides to the film’s protagonist named Mrs. Who, Mrs. Whatsit, and Mrs. Which respectively.

A Wrinkle in Time will see Frozen writer and co-director Jennifer Lee treats its script. Of course, the film will follow the iconic children’s book published by Madeleine L’Engle. The acclaimed story follows a young girl named Meg Murry who is traumatized by the loss of her father after he goes missing. Determined to find him, Meg embarks on a journey to a mysterious fifth dimension alongside her friend Calvin O’Keefe on their search.

This film adaptation won’t be the first stab Hollywood has taken at A Wrinkle in Time. The story was previously adapted into a television film in 2003. Distributed by Disney, the movie was universally panned by critics who cited the project’s shallow content.

The new adaptation also features a noticeably different casting motif. A Wrinkle in Time gives a much-needed nod to diversity as the Murry family will be mixed-race. Disney is looking to make the film even more inclusive as casting calls indicate the studio wants a nonwhite actor to play Calvin O’Keefe in the film. DuVernay hopes the film will signal a growing shift towards inclusivity, a movement that Disney has vocally supported over the years.

As for Storm Reid, this isn’t her first foray into big films. The actress debuted in Twelve Years a Slave alongside stars like Brad Pitt and Chiwetel Ejiofor. She went on to book television roles in series such as Chicago PD, NCIS: Los Angeles, and more. Most recently, she finished working on A Happening of Monumental Proportions, an indie film helmed by actress Judy Greer.

Currently, there’s no release date set for A Wrinkle in Time but updates are surely coming soon.
