Adele Announces Hiatus From Music Following Las Vegas Residency: 'I Will Not See You for an Incredibly Long Time'

The singer said that she wants time to "live her life" when her residency is over.

Adele is taking a break from performing live. She said in a video posted to her social media account, "I'm not the most comfortable performer. I know that, but I am very comfortably good at it, and I really enjoyed performing for nearly three years now, which is the longest I've ever done, and probably the longest I would ever do" She pointed out that she has 10 more shows left in her Las Vegas residency over the next five weeks, "But after that, I will not see you for an incredibly long time."

"I will hold you dear in my heart for that whole length of my break," Adele went on. "And I will fantasize about these shows and any shows that I've done over the last three years, and I really, really hold them in the bottom of my heart forever. It has been amazing. I just need a rest."

The singer got emotional, saying that she has spent the last seven years "building a new life for myself, and I want to live that new life." She didn't get specific, though fans in the comments have certainly speculated about what she might have meant. They alluded to Adele's severe illness earlier this year as well as her struggle with alcohol abuse, among other things.

Adele had previously mentioned plans to take a hiatus when asked if she will be releasing new music any time soon. She told the German news outlet ZDF: "I don't have any plans for new music, at all. I want a big break after this and I think I want to do other creative things, just for a while."

The 36-year-old British singer-songwriter started her residency, "Weekends with Adele," in November of 2022 at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace." The show has achieved outstanding critical acclaim and is beloved by fans as well. The residency was extended in March of 2023, adding 34 more shows to the slate. Those will wrap up on Nov. 23.

On the personal side, Adele is currently planning her wedding to long-time boyfriend Rich Paul – an American sports agent. She announced that they were engaged during another performance earlier in August. She also shares a 12-year-old son with her ex-husband Simon Konecki. Adele has been open with fans about some of her mental health struggles including anxiety, panic attacks, and postnatal depression. Last fall, she announced that she had been sober for three months, and that she had dealt with "borderline alcoholism" behind the scenes for years.
