“A family imprisoned by intruders is forced to play a terrifying game of ‘Kill, Or Be Killed.’ As the night unfolds, the game’s mysterious rules become clear, and the family realizes their nightmare is being streamed live to riveted viewers all over the world, who are compelled to keep watchingโฆnot knowing if what they’re seeing is real, or staged.”
The film stars Bella Thorne, Chandler Riggs, Natalie Martinez, Leigh Whannell, and Ioan Gruffudd.
Sadly, there’s no release date for the film yet, which was previously scheduled to hit theaters last December and had also been previously known as Home Invasion.
This is only one of many recent setbacks for Thorne’s forays into the world of horror, as this past June was supposed to see the release of her installment in the Amityville Horror franchise, Amityville: Awakening. Weeks before its scheduled June 30 opening, the film was quietly pulled from release schedules and shelved indefinitely.
Making the situation for the film seem even more dire is that this was the second time that film had a promoted premiere date, only to be pulled. A poster for the film was initially released in March of 2016 that claimed it would be released in April, only for the decision to be revoked days later.
Amityville: Awakening was directed by Franck Khalfoun, whose previous films include P2 and the Maniac remake. Despite the director demonstrating his talents in previous films, rumors circled that his French filmmaking sensibilities didn’t translate well to an American film franchise, requiring multiple reshoots and fresh edits.
Keep Watching, on the other hand, doesn’t appear to suffer from those issues, as its director Sean Carter’s directorial debut.
With the variety of options of releasing films, from VOD platforms to streaming services and theatrical engagements, it can be a tricky situation trying to determine which outlet will result in your film reaching the widest audience possible.
Considering Bella Thorne has a legion of fans and Chandler Riggs has been a staple of The Walking Dead, it’s surprising that it’s taken this long for the studio to capitalize on the duo’s star power. When The Walking Dead returns for Season 8 in the fall, perhaps that will mark the best opportunity to unleash the thriller on audiences.
