Austin and Kenzi Reddick had tried everything to conceive, but were running out of options and money to dedicate to fertility treatments and adoption.
Then, with a touch of ingenuity, and a little unexpected help from the stars of Fixer Upper, the couple was able to welcome a baby into their family.
The Reddicks knew they had to raise $20,000 to cover the expenses of a domestic adoption so they wasted no time raising the funds. Kenzi already had an Etsy store, Swallows Grace, from which she sold mugs with clever sayings.
Among those sayings was a series of Fixer Upper themed captions, including, "Joanna Gaines Is My Spirit Animal," and "Did Somebody Say Shiplap?" They announced on their store's page, "100% of the proceeds will go directly to bringing our baby home! Our goal is to make and sell 1,000 coffee mugs to get us to the $20,000 mark!"
Joanna and Chip Gaines are the stars of the popular home makeover show Fixer Upper. The Reddicks are fans of the show, and it turns out the Gaines are fans of Kenzi's designs as well.
Chip posted a photo to Instagram of him working with a "Joanna Gaines Is My Spirit Animal" mug in hand.
Sales skyrocketed. It wasn't long after that that the couple sold a literal truckload of the mugs and was able to afford the adoption. They posted a photo of themselves sitting on the bed of a pickup truck full of orders and announced the happy news.

They didn't have to wait long to start their family, it turns out. Later that month, their baby boy Lane Everett Reddick was born.
"Thank you for helping to fill the holes we have in our hearts. We can't wait for the day that we can tell our child just how much he or she was prayed over & longed for, and just how many cups of coffee it took to bring him or her home to us, forever," Kenzi wrote on Etsy.
