In the new trailer for the upcoming film La La Land, Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling are in love again.

The popular onscreen couple, who previously worked together for 2011 romantic comedy Crazy, Stupid, Love and 2013 drama Gangster Squad, are once again teaming up for a new romantic musical. The upcoming film, however, seems to be much darker than that of their previous romantic comedy movie.

In the first trailer, 35-year-old actor Ryan Gosling plays a jazz musician named Sebastian with co-star Emma Stone portraying his onscreen girlfriend, an aspiring actress named Mia. In the movie, the characters struggle to cope with the rising pressures of making it big in Hollywood.

The trailer features no dialogue, but instead uses Gosling's original song "City of Stars" to play over the montage. Gosling and Stone can't take their eyes off of one another in the trailer, but there's an underlying tone of heartbreak present in their relationship. The lyrics to Gosling's song only add more suspense to the trailer.

"City of stars, are you shining just for me? City of stars, there's so much I can't see," Goslings sings over the trailer. "Is this the start of something wonderful - or one more dream that I cannot make true."

The trailer then ends with Gosling and Stone embraced in a passionate kiss in a crowded room thus adding to the dark tone of the trailer.

The movie is directed by Damien Chazelle (Whiplash), and is set to premiere on August 31, on the opening night of the Venice Film Festival and hits theaters on Dec. 2

Also, Gosling's song, "City of Stars," is available for download now via iTunes and also on streaming services, according to Entertainment Weekly.
