Royal Couple Expecting Baby No. 4: Congrats to Princess Sofia and Prince Carl Philip

Prince Carl Philip and his wife shared the good news on Instagram on Monday.

Swedish royals Princes Sofia and Prince Carl Philip announced on Monday that they are expecting their fourth child. The couple already share three sons, but they did not reveal the sex of their next child. The announcement did reveal that Princess Sofia's due date is in February.

"Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia are very happy to announce that the Princess is expecting the couple's fourth child," the royal statement read. "Princess Sofia is doing well and the offspring is estimated to be February 2025. During the fall, no changes are expected to Princess Sofia's official program."

The 39-year-old princess joined the monarchy by marriage, as 45-year-old Prince Carl Philip is the only son of King Carl XVI Gustaf and Queen Silvia. However, the prince's elder sister Victoria is the heir apparent. They also have a younger sister, Princess Madeleine. Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia's sons are 8-year-old Prince Alexander, 6-year-old Prince Gabriel and 3-year-old Prince Julian.

Prince Carl Philip began dating Sofia Helqvist in 2010. At the time, she worked as a glamour model. They got engaged in 2014 and married in 2015, then had their first son in April of 2016. They live in Stockholm, in a private residence belonging to the royal family called Villa Solbacken.

While they are given the honorific "prince," Alexander, Gabriel and Julian have already had their titles changed in their lifetimes. The Swedish crown moved to restrict the use of "HRH" titles back in 2019, announcing that the children of Prince Philip and Princess Madeleine would not hold the titles "his royal highness" or "her royal highness" anymore, while those in the direct line of succession would. Prince Carl Philip made a post at the time saying he believes this was a positive change for his family.

"Today, the King announced the decision that our children no longer hold the Royal Highness position. We see this as positive as Alexander and Gabriel will have freer choices in life," he wrote. "They will retain their prince titles and their duchies, Södermanland and Dalarna, which we value and are proud of. Our family has strong connections to both landscapes and we maintain our commitment there."
