Big Little Lies, the adaptation of Liane Moriarty’s book of the same name, became a massive hit when it premiered on HBO earlier this year, and fans immediately began clamoring for a second season. According to HBO’s programming president, Casey Bloys, that might just be a possibility.

Bloys revealed at the Television Critics Association’s summer press tour earlier this week that he has asked Moriarty to “take a crack” at coming up with a storyline for a potential second season, as the first season covered the book’s original story.

“I’ll be very curious to see what she comes up with,” he added, via TV Line.

Series stars Reese Witherspoon and Nicole Kidman, who earned an Emmy nod for her role as Celeste, have been vocal about their desire to make a second season, something Bloys noted in his comments in regards to series director Jean-Marc Vallรฉe’s previously expressed disdain for a second season.

“I know [Jean-Marc] said thatโ€ฆ but Nicole and Reese can be very persuasive,” Bloys said. “First we have to see the material and see if it’s worth everyone’s time. And if it is, [we’ll have a] conversation about directors.”

Kidman offered her thoughts on a potential second season at the summer Television Critics Association press tour on Saturday, telling reporters that things are currently “up in the air.”

“There’s an abundance of ideas and if we can wrestle them into a script form, then yes,” she said, via Entertainment Tonight. “But right now, it’s very up in the air unfortunately, but that’s just what it is.”

Regardless of what happens with the show, Kidman noted that she appreciates all the support Big Little Lies received for its first season.

“We’re so grateful for the support and the love that the show has been given, truly, because we never thought it would be lauded or received in this way,” she said. “Grazie mille!”
