President Donald Trump took to Twitter to announce on Wednesday morning that the U.S. government will no longer “accept or allow” transgender people to serve in the military. After the message was posted, a bevy of celebrities took to social media to share their reaction.

“After consultation with my Generals and military experts, please be advised that the United States Government will not accept or allow…..,” he wrote.

“Transgender individuals to serve in any capacity in the U.S. Military. Our military must be focused on decisive and overwhelming…..,” he added.

“….victory and cannot be burdened with the tremendous medical costs and disruption that transgender in the military would entail. Thank you,” he concluded.

One of the first celebrities to react was Star Trek alum George Takei.

“History shall record that you are not only the stupidest, most incompetent president ever, but also the cruelest and pettiest,” he tweeted minutes after the news broke.

Takeiย later added a call to action, writing, “Invidious discrimination against any group must be opposed by all. Straight/Cis allies: Will you stand with LGBTs?”

Comedian Billy Eichnerย questioned if the people who voted for Donald Trump were aware of the direction that the former Apprentice star would take while in the Oval Office.

“I hope deep down Trump voters realize the increasing amount of psychological & perhaps even physical damage they’ve done to fellow Americans,” he tweeted.

Pineapple Express star Seth Rogenย retweetedย a message from Donald Trump’s daughter, Ivanka, in which she voiced her support for the LGBTQย community.

“I’m starting to think they don’t know what these letters actually stand for,” Rogenย commented.

Jesse Tyler Ferguson, who portrays Mitchell Pritchett on ABC’s Modern Family, believes that the President is making a statement filled with “hate” and “discrimination.”

“Sending a message that hate & discrimination should be tolerated if it saves us money. A shameful yet unsurprising new low. #EqualityForAll,” he tweeted.

Late Late Show host James Cordenย tried reaching out to Ivankaย to have her attempt to change her father’s decision.

Comedian Sandra Bernhard lashed out at Caitlynย Jenner, who has been an outspoken supporter of President Trump and is transgendered.

“@Caitlyn_Jennerย wake up sweetheart give Your wonderful president a call & discuss #noTransgender in military congrats on a great choice!” she wrote.
