This year could go down as one of the biggest years for Stephen King fans, with a variety of TV and film projects making their premieres. For those of you looking to bone up on some of Stephen King’s classic, an all-new Blu-ray set with clever cover art will be released later this year, collecting some of the author’s biggest properties. The set will be released on August 27 but is currently available for pre-order.

The cover art combines an image of the Overlook Hotel from The Shining, a red balloon that can be seen in It, a cat from Cat’s Eye and the shape of an upside-down cross to represent Salem’s Lot.

Despite all of these films being available on their own independent Blu-ray, collecting all of these classics into one set would be a great gift for someone looking to get more experience with the author, or an opportunity to own them all if you aren’t a stickler for special features.

The “King of Horror Collection” contains the following:

Salem’s Lot (1979)

  • Commentary with Director Tobe Hooper
  • Trailer

The Shining (1980)

Stephen King’s Cat’s Eye (1985)

The set hits shelves mere weeks before the new live-action adaptation of It hits theaters, this time with an R rating, which promises to provide audiences a much more intense experience than the film that aired on TV in 1990.

Back in June, Spike debuted a new TV series based on King’s short story “The Mist,” about a mysterious fog that descends upon a small town, forcing its residents to hide from the terrifying threats the fog contains.

In August, The Dark Tower will hit theaters, based on King’s series of books about gunslinger Roland Deschain trying to prevent the Man in Black from tearing the universe apart. Additionally, August will see the release of the Mr. Mercedes TV series on AT&T’s audience network, about a retired detective tormented by a killer he couldn’t catch.

One of the most exciting pieces of news announced is the upcoming Castle Rock TV series, which is set in the town King created as the home of many of his stories. The Hulu series will combine elements of many of his iconic tales while also injecting new threats for King aficionados.
