I won’t sugar coat this. The ending of Tuesday’s Smackdown Live was absolutely written by crazy people. Just when we thought all of the supernatural shenanigans surrounding the WWE Championship feud had come to a close, Randy Orton took his game to a whole new level and the WWE Universe lost their minds.
But before we discuss the ending of the final Smackdown before WrestleMania, I’m going to try and explain what has led to the Randy Orton and Bray Wyatt WWE Championship match.

Last summer, the Wyatt Family waged war on Randy Orton. Instead of continuing to fight off the Wyatts, Randy decided to join them. This led to a short but impressive stretch where Randy and the cult of beardos won the Smackdown Tag Team Championships (only to lose them a few weeks later).
Orton then won the 2017 Royal Rumble and a chance to face the WWE Champion at WrestleMania. Three weeks later, that champion became Bray Wyatt after he defeated John Cena and friends at Elimination Chamber. After the victory, Randy pledged his dying allegiance to Bray and we were treated to a bunch of number one contender matches that were solely designed to get AJ Styles mad as Shane McMahon, but that’s another story.
Just as Bray seemed content with not having an opponent at ‘Mania, his pal, Randy, snuck away to the Wyatt Family compound, challenged Bray to the WrestleMania match he’d already won the rights to at the Rumble and then burned down the “soul” of the already dead Sister Abigail, thus taking away all of Bray’s powers.
Two weeks later we found out that the shed and soul burning only added to Bray’s powers as he claimed that rubbing her ashes on him made him a demigod. This also gave Bray a weird new stick with some sort of vague symbol on the end that he used to sing a children’s song to Randy while 100 dudes in sheep masks held Orton down.
Fast forward to this week and Bray vanquishes the challenge of his former apostle Luke Harper only to see that damn Randy Orton back at the Wyatt compound now holding Bray’s mystical devil stick (which the WWE are calling a “crusix”) and shoving it into the ground where poor ol’ Sister Abigail had already died a few times. This apparently released all of Bray’s powers (which we never really got to see any of) and some awful CGI into the air.
