The WWE has produced a boat load of original content in the past year. From the Cruiserweight Classic to the UK Championship to Ride Along, the WWE Universe has been treated to some amazing moments that stretch well past the regular Monday and Tuesday night viewings. But they may have just outdone themselves. After a mysterious tease on Twitter two days ago of a VHS tape titled “Southpaw Regional Wrestling”, the WWE has unleashed it’s greatest piece of original programming into the world.
Here is the official description given by WWE: “The discovery of a VHS cassette reveals the bizarre and hilarious history of a wrestling promotion once thought lost to time: Southpaw Regional Wrestling.”

The hilarious spoof on 80s era, low-budget wrestling promotions features John Cena doing a Gordon Solie/Lance Russell impersonation as “Lance Catamaran”, a failed news anchor stuck in a fledgling wrestling promotion. You’ll also see Rusev as a Hillbilly Jim-type character (still with Russian accent), TJ Perkins as an uncharismatic old school territories champion, The Club in a heated redneck, Freebird-esque rivalry, Chris Jericho as a flamboyant backstage annoucner, The Ascension as a Surfer tag team, and a wrestling sea monster.
The entire saga “found on the VHS” is leading up to SRW’s “Lethal Leap Year.” Make sure to look out for the Ric Flair impersonator who sounds eerily similar to The Nature Boy himself.
