Tuesday night’s episode of SmackDown Live made a bit of WWE history when WWE unveiled the first ever Women’s Money In The Bank briefcase.

Commissioner Shane McMahon held an in-ring ceremony introducing the five contestants who will take part in the first-ever women’s Money in the Bank ladder match in just under two weeks. With all gathered in the ring, as well as current WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion Naomi and Carmella’s ring escort James Ellsworth, Shane then debuted the new white with gold trimmed briefcase for all to see.

Thankfully, the first women’s MitB match did not take place during the Diva’s era or who knows how tacky it could have been.

Becky Lynch, Charlotte, Tamina, Natalya and Carmella will all battle it out for a chance to become the first ever Mrs. Money In The Bank. The winner will have the chance to carry the white and gold case with them for up to a year, but as we’ve seen before, they could also cash in on the same night. Naomi will be defending her Women’s Championship at the Money In The Bank pay per view against Lana and if Lana were to somehow pull off the amazing upset, we wouldn’t be surprised to see someone like Charlotte or Becky steal the victory away from her.

Throughout WWE history, there have been 17 Money In The Bank matches. Including the ladies new case, there have been 12 different designs. From a leather bound attache case to the golden case New Era fans have grown accustomed to, WWE has tinkered with the design many times.

Sometimes, this has been done to have the case more closely match the star carrying it while others simply for marketing purposes.

Now that you’ve gotten a taste of the new case, scroll down to see how much the WWE‘s most infamous piece of luggage has changed over the years.

Edge

Edge MITB

The first everย Money In The Bank briefcase was won by Edge in 2005 at WrestleManiaย 21. Back then, it was simply a black briefcase minus any personal ofย WWE graphics. Edge would hold the contract for 280 days before cashing in on John Cenaย at New Years Revolution in 2006.

RVD won the second MitB briefcase at WrestleManiaย 22 and put his own spin on it. The case went from leather attorney’s case to the more sturdy case we’ve grown accustomed to seeing. To match his ‘vibe’, RVDย had someone airbrush his initials and a yin yang on the case. Which, considering he was likely high at the time, probably made a lot of sense.ย

Van Dam would hold the Whole F’Nย Briefcase for 70 days before cashing in on John Cena at ECWย One Night Stand in 2006.

Mr. Kennedy, Edge part two

Mr. Kennedy (KENNEDY!) barely had a chance to call himself Mr. Money In The Bank as his run was comically short. Kennedy won the briefcase at WrestleManiaย 23, but would become the first man to never get the chance to cash-in as he would lose a match for the case only 36 days later to Edge. In those 36 days he did get a chance to slap his own logo on to give it a new look.ย

Edge’s second run with the coveted briefcase would last even less time.ย

When Edgeย defeated Mr. Kennedy for the MitB case, he also became a member of the SmackDown brand, marking the first time this occurred. As the usual in those days, Edge slapped his Rated RKOย logo on the case before cashing in on The Undertaker one day later on SmackDown.ย

CM Punk

CM Punk won his first MitBย case at WrestleManiaย 24 and slapped a version of his logo on the case that resembled one of his many tattoos. Punk held the contract for 92 days before cashing in onย Edge with a GTS to win the championship after Edge was attacked by Batista. This was the first time a babyfaceย cashed-in in a less than honorable way.

CM Punk’s second MitBย victory in a row featured a case with the WrestleManiaย 25 logo front and center. 63 days later, Punk would successfully cash in on Worldย Champion, Jeff Hardy at WWEย Extreme Rules.

Jack Swagger

Swagger’sย WrestleManiaย 26 MitBย victory would be the last time the briefcase would feature a logo other than the Money In The Bank logo. Swagger only held the contract for two days before cashing in on Chris Jericho at a 2010 episode of SmackDown.ย

Kane and Miz

Kane won the first ever Money in the Bank match at the Money in the Bank pay per view in 2010. The briefcase was blue to rep the SmackDownย brand and featured the MitB logo we’ve all come to know and love over the years. Kane wouldn’t bother carrying the case around long, however, as he became the first to cash-in on the same night when he defeated Reyย Mysterio later in the evening.

The Miz also won a MitBย case that same night for the Raw brand. Mizย would carry his case for 127 days before defeating Randy Orton for the WWE Championship.

Damien Sandow

Damien Sandow would win his Money In The Bank case at the pay per view of the same name in 2013 and make the first changes to the design in three years. Being the intellectual savior to the masses, it made sense for Sandowย to go with a more traditional, leather boundย look.ย

Unfortunately, the look did nothing to help his chances as Sandowย would hold the contract for 106 days before becoming theย second MitB winner to fail to win his cash-in match. The failure would be a sign of things to come for Sandow’sย WWE career.

Seth Rollins

Seth Rollins would win the iconic gold briefcase at the 2014 Money In The Bank pay per view. The new look was perfect for the case as well as Rollins’ new heel persona. The Architect held the contract for 273 days before becoming the first person to cash in at WrestleMania. He also became the first to win his cash in match without pinning the champion, as he inserted himself into the match between Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar.
